1900 Puerto Rican general election

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

General elections were held in Puerto Rico in November 1900. Federico Degetau of the Republican Party was elected Resident Commissioner with 99.75% of the vote amid a boycott by the Federal Party.[1][2] 35 seats were elected up for election in the House of Delegates, as well as elections for mayors, boards of councils, school commissioners and road supervisors.[2]

Background

[edit]

The elections were held as a result of the Foraker Act,[2] which created an Executive Council composed of six Americans and five Puerto Ricans to determine the electoral rules.[2]
