Distinct from McDLT

I'm struggling to understand how the Big n Tasty is considered a successor to the McDLT. The opening of the History section, "The Big N' Tasty is the latest in a series of burgers that were designed to compete against the Whopper from Burger King" cites a source which makes no claims of the Big N Tasty's relation to the McDLT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.168.167.72 (talk) 03:23, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The decision was made in 2007 to merge McDLT, McLean Deluxe, and Big Xtra into Big N' Tasty/Big Tasty, on the basis that, in the opinion of an editor with industry experience, these four products had fundamentally the same role in McDonalds's business strategy. Although I can see that this is true, it's also not clear why they should be thought of as the same product from any other perspective -- to the consumer, the McDLT is about the temperature contrast of fresh lettuce and tomato, and the McLean Deluxe is about reducing fat consumption. The article as it stands does not justify identifying these four sandwiches as iterations of the same "series," and I would argue the merge decision was based on original research. The Big N' Tasty article should only cover the Big N' Tasty and sandwiches which are treated as its equivalent or analogue in reliable sources. Any products which are not treated as analogous or equivalent in reliable sources (like, I suspect, the McDLT and the McLean Deluxe) should have their coverage moved to List of McDonald's products#Discontinued food products (and their redirects changed as well).

McDLT was actually discontinued in 1991, at least in Canada

I'm certain that the McDLT was discontinued in 1991 and not 1990 as this article states. I have an old videotape of recorded CBC from 1991 (Wednesday, March 6 specifically), and it had a commercial featuring the Big Mac, Quarter-Pounder with cheese, and the MC-DLT. The commercial ends with "We put a lot of good into every hamburger. McDonald's: Always good food, always good value".

Discontinued?

Yes, the Big N' Tasty and its international versions under the name Big Tasty have been discontinued. We should get around to updating this. Here are some sources we can use:

Discontinued in US 2011

No more McDonald’s in russia

The McRoyal Deluxe description on the McDonald's España website looks a lot like a Big N' Tasty without onions and with cheddar, but without reliable sources identifying the McRoyal with the Big N' Tasty as a "version" or similar, I could see an argument for moving the information to List of McDonald's products. I don't have a strong opinion.
