⚧ and gender inclusivity
[edit]The article currently describes the symbol ⚧ as mainly signifying "gender inclusivity". This is not backed up by the sources, where it is described exclusively as a transgender symbol with the possibility that it "may have been used before" for other purposes.
Further into the article the Unicode Standard is also referenced, describing ⚧ as exclusively a transgender symbol.
I suggest the article describe ⚧ as primarily a transgender symbol and that the meaning of gender inclusivity be removed unless it is attested elsewhere. HannahLibbie (talk) 18:14, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- It's used outside of bathrooms, or on the door, to indicate all genders, not transgender.
- Unicode is only a RS for Unicode, and anyway doesn't describe it as exclusively anything. — kwami (talk) 23:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have also seen the symbol used that way, but only on bathroom doors and possibly a changing room. I do think this needs a citation (it's also flagged on Gender symbol).
- My position is that the primary, general usage of ⚧ is as a transgender symbol, with an additional specific meaning of "all-gender" or "gender-neutral" when used on bathrooms, changing rooms and the like. Most uses of ⚧ will not indicate "gender inclusivity". HannahLibbie (talk) 09:52, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
