Parameters
[edit]Anecdotally, I've encountered a number of cases where this template is used incorrectly, because people assume that the unnamed second parameter adds the disambiguation link. Given the progression in naming conventions and WP:NCCAPS, the only place where that use case is broadly valid is Japan, and there's another template ({{STN}}) that provides that functionality, and uses the second parameter for disambiguation. I think there might be some value in reconciling the two, and changing the second parameter to do the same thing as the third. You'd want to do a one-time pass of transclusions and migrate any uses that actually want the capitalized Station to {{STN}}. Mackensen (talk) 02:31, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- In my first pass with JWB checking usage, I found 2 articles using the second parameter in the first 5000 pages:
- Link light rail (valid, converted to STN)
- LRT Line 2 (unnecessary, and also invalid)
- This is in addition to the half dozen Japanese articles I had already modified (Japanese articles mostly used STN already). Mackensen (talk) 03:37, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Did another dozen; most of them were used incorrectly and linking to the wrong pages. I think it's safe to change the template, but I'm holding off. Mackensen (talk) 04:02, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Problems with template?
[edit]Hi. I wonder whether anyone might know why Gosaek and Omokcheon are failing. I've used them in the Suwon article, where they show as dead links (they're in red), but the Gosaek station and Omokcheon station pages definitely exist. I think they may be some sort of bug. Thanks for any tips anyone may have. JPBarrass (talk) 08:02, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- {{STN}} is a separate but similar template that capitalizes station. Mackensen (talk) 11:38, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
Template broken as of 1/5/25?
[edit]I noticed the TFD for the duplicate STN template back in december, but as of today (1/5/25), it appears that something was changed, and almost all uses of STN are now broken. Take Chūō_Line_(Rapid)#Station_list for example, almost all links are now red, and many of the links that do still work now link to disambiguation pages.
I'm most experienced with Japanese Railway pages and I don't know what other countries' railway-related pages are now broken, but even just for Japan, there would be thousands of pages to manually change if this issue isn't fixed.
It looks to me like it's a problem with capitalization, as the names of the articles for most Japanese railway stations are titled "XX Station", with the S capitalized, and all of the broken links are to the same page but without the s capitalized. As per Template_talk:Station#Problems_with_template?, the STN template used a capital S and this template uses a lowercase s, but now that they were merged, any uses of this template for station pages with the S capitalized are now broken. - It's a cart-or-horse issue; I can either update all of the template transclusions first, and have them not work until I update the template, or I update the template first and have the transclusions broken until the bot (which for the record is actively running) updates all of the template calls. - Okay great, thank you for letting me know there's currently a bot running to fix the issue. I didn't see anything mentioning that anywhere I looked, but as long as it's being fixed that's what matters. I just wanted to make sure this issue wasn't overlooked during the merge. - Aye, no worries, and apologies for the (temporary) mess; it's one of the reasons I try to get to these on Sunday evenings, because people aren't usually as likely to notice at these sorts of times. Primefac (talk) 19:06, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
