[edit]John Michael Montanez (born on March 27, 2002), known professionally as G4NXHD, is an American rapper. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, he began his musical career during his free time working at Foodtown, after meeting entrepreneur and musician manager AmbitionKelz. Her rapping style has been noted by fans and media outlets, who have described him as "unique"
G4NXHD gained his recognition in late 2024 with his song "Champion", which went viral on Instagram, most notably Spotify. After establishing AmbitionKelz as his manager, he released "Lost Titles" (With VV Porter) and "Do The Walk" shortly after his emerging presence in the New York underground scene. He saw interest in music strongly after his numberous efforts of releases, dropping songs from "Kratos" to "Believe In G4". After a month hiatus, with the audience questioning the presence of him, In January 09, 2025, he made his media awaited return with the single "Twin Fever Part 1", followed by "Twin Fever Part 2". He is mostly notable for his rapid drops of songs, which lead 40+ songs to the world.
Early Life & Education
[edit]John Michael Montanez was born on March 27, 2002, in Lowell, Massachusetts. The middle child of five siblings, Montanez is of Hispanic ethnicity; his father- Luis Gomez -is Dominican, while his mother- Jerytza Montanez -is Puerto Rican. The two met at a club in Massachusetts, Luis was a underground rapper, and Jerytza worked at a food service. Jerytza was 22 when she gave birth to John. The two broke up shortly after a hospital appearance, where the father then lefted Jerytza and John at just a couple days old.
John spent most of his childhood with his mother and his siblings. They moved out of O'Brian Street in 2010 and moved to Chapel Street. He went to school in Lowell until 7th grade, and to Methuen High School in Methuen, where he resigned to until Late 12th grade. He was inspired by the Dance/EDM after taking a listen to producers and djs like Marshmello, Daft Punk, and others in the EDM Scene, while he also a liking at a older age to Hip Hop/Trap artists like Lil Yachty, Ski Mask The Slump God, Gunna, and others as well. He used to rap with his father over the weekend as he was inspired as well, even though their relationship was rough, he would write and sing often to his family and enjoy dancing, often listening to the late and great Michael Jackson. Often around his roommates in residential group home, and alongside at a older age with Kelz, John would rap around them to practice. Montanez has explained in a train station on the way home with ABC7 local New York news station "I loved listening to Ski Mask The Slump God, I didn't know how I was till I found the perfect melody I saw fit. I know what and who I wanted to be as a whole." He chose G4NXHD as his stage name while he was in junior in high school.
John later dropped out of high school, only completing most of his senior year and later moved that year to New York, believing it was in his best interest. He worked as a cashier at Wendy's and Stop & Shop, but later quit and pursued a different route.
Artistry

[edit]G4NXHD's music combines the elements from genres like rap, hip-hop and electronic music, creating a unique sound. His name came from his gamertag that was chosen by a dear friend and mentor, known as Palmer. He later died in early 2020, where John kept the name in memory of his mentor and friend. John writes all his lyrics, though he doesn't consider himself to be a lyricist. He has explained he prefers his lyrics "very melodic" and "unique".
John was inspired to start rapping by Trippie Redd and Don Toliver, and listed Ski Mask The Slump God, Yeat, Lil Uzi Vert, and Tyler The Creator as styles. He also was inspired by Gio Dee and Young M.A. due to their Massachusetts roots.

Feuds and controversies
[edit]Underground rapper Ty Benzo and G4NXHD has been compared in the media as rivals, as reports of tensions during 2022. The origin of the feud remains unclear. The feud gained internet attention in July 2022 when fans interpreted a lyric from "The Maneuver" featuring Cdot "Catch Benzo, I'm dumping the pole."[1] in response to one of Benzo's song.
In Early 2023, it was later rumored the both were meeting up to fight. It's unclear what had happened as both have not said a word. G4NXHD has explained, "I don't hate him anymore, I just don't respect how he backdoor'd me, and even so he still doesn't respect me, so why should I?", inciting "Respect is earned."
