Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Indefinite full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Persistent de-stabilization and please restore this stable version [1] if the edit warring constant. Mr.Hanes Talk 14:04, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined. Pages will not be full protected indefinitely, period. The article was full protected 5 days ago because of edit warring, and the same editors resumed edit warring as soon as that protection expired. Our only remaining recourse is to block those editors. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:38, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Then, I am requesting temporary full protection for the page because it is being disturbed repeatedly. Mr.Hanes Talk 15:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. I agree that we usually do not fully protect indefinitely. But: there seems to be a (rough) consensus on talk on how to proceed... which is ignored by a single user; better to deal with this on a direct base instead of locking the whole page down. Lectonar (talk) 15:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Then, I am requesting temporary full protection for the page because it is being disturbed repeatedly. Mr.Hanes Talk 15:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent removal/tampering of sourced info. HistoryofIran (talk) 15:18, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. There was a flurry of disruptive activity that seemed to die out more than a week ago. Please make a new request if sufficient disruptive activity resumes. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:31, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protection: IP editor's consistent disruptive editing, use of WP:OR, and being WP:POINTY all without even attempting to open a discussion on the talk page. – GlowstoneUnknown (Talk) 16:07, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm going to leave this for another admin, but from what I see nobody, including yourself, has attempted to open a discussion. At a glance, the edits you are reverting as "disruptive" are also adding citations from publications that are generally considered reliable, sometimes the same ones that you are using, which suggests to me that this is a content dispute. In these situations I would look for a discussion on the talk page to determine a consensus on how best to reflect the information in the article, and would determine who is being disruptive and edit warring inappropriately based on that. In the absence of such a discussion, I would be using admin tools to prejudice one side of a content dispute, and I would prefer not to. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Automated comment: One or more pages in this request appear to already be protected. Please confirm.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 18:53, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. @Ivanvector: I share your concerns about the most recent content dispute. I believe there is enough recent history of sockpuppetry on the article to justify protecting the article, though. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:09, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Given recent reporting that The Heritage Foundation plans to dox Wikipedia editors, Heritage's own page will likely be an attractive target for unhelpful edits. Trivialist (talk) 16:09, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Pages are not protected preemptively. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:18, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Heyaaaaalol (talk) 17:02, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @Heyaaaaalol: The page hasn't been edited since 29 July 2024. Please stop making unnecessary requests until you have more experience as recommended by Callanecc on your talk page. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:13, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Very strange edit war that's been active for around a month. Dawnseeker2000 18:37, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Also, one of the main accounts involved in the edit war has been blocked indefinitely. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:16, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. Not long after the article came off semi-protection, vandalism resumed. They’re making accounts for the express purpose of repeatedly making the same disruptive edits. Logs show this has been going on for several years. Asking for indef. protection. Sinclairian (talk) 19:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Indefinite protection would be premature here, see WP:PREEMPTIVE. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:26, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Nswix (talk) 19:30, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
