Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing by IPs. Skitash (talk) 16:35, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 23:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Continuous additions of non-existent articles by IPs; in this case, redirected pages about media franchises, which if more of this type were added would take up unnecessary space for the purpose of the template BrookTheHumming (talk) 17:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with Brook for temporary semi-protection; this navbox is only meant to have full-fledged franchise articles, not section redirects. An IP user has recently been trying to add Anastasia (franchise) to the navbox even though it only redirects to a section in the article for the 1997 film, which is not the intent of the template. –WPA (talk) 23:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Already protected by administrator Ponyo. Daniel Case (talk) 23:06, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    For a week. Daniel Case (talk) 23:06, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Multiple edits due to transfer rumors to Aston Villa which is unannounced, Requesting edit protection until end of transfer window 1st February IrishReader1996 (talk) 17:12, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Just one edit today after a couple of reasonably quiet weeks. Daniel Case (talk) 23:09, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Anonymous editor hopping between multiple IP addresses, dating back to 5 January 2025. livelikemusic (TALK!) 17:34, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined First, the user appears to be on a /64, which should not be taken to imply by itself they are deliberately hopping IPs. Second, they haven't been warned in five days—contrary to what too many people here may think, it is not self-evident from being reverted that you're doing something wrong, at least not to new editors. Third, not all of their edits have been reverted (although you are right that most of those have been on the article in question. Fourth, if they are a sock, who are they a sock of? Being on a /64 where your ISP dynamically assigns your IP address does not, as I said above, make you a sock. Daniel Case (talk) 23:17, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Mixture of vandalism, good faith nonconstructive editing, and the occasional constructive IP edit. Has been semi-protected on and off for the better part of five years - might be time for a long-term solution. Entranced98 (talk) 19:07, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Pending-changes protected indefinitely. Daniel Case (talk) 02:02, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Article apparently being vandalized by students. Skywatcher68 (talk) 19:13, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 02:08, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes: Persistent vandalism. Niasoh ❯❯❯ Wanna chat? 19:56, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 02:13, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Request indefinite extended confirmed protection, same thing with The Blooodline, WP:OR, disruptive editing and constant vandalism. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] If you have nay question please let me know in the reply below. Lemonademan22 (talk) 19:57, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent semi-protection: Persistent disruptive IP editing when unprotected Firecat (talk) 19:59, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Ymblanter (talk) 22:32, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IP editor keeps removing content from the page. O.N.R. (talk) 22:15, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. It looks like they have stopped, but please report it if they continue. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 01:56, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Consistent addition of a non-existent "Kageff Fire". EF5 23:53, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

+1 - Archer and Granada also questionable at best. Maybe a CU would be good here. Wildfireupdateman :) (talk) 00:48, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 01:52, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Let's lock this up and get all these IPS to the talk page discussing why we use this terminology. Ongoing problem for months.... Moxy🍁 23:59, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 01:50, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Jalen Barks (Woof) 00:20, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 01:47, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP users continued doing edit tests. WiiUf🐉 00:41, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: BLP policy violations – A globally locked, highly disruptive sock who is known to use IPs from this geolocation keeps violating WP:BLP. M.Bitton (talk) 01:20, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 2 years, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 01:41, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeat vandal adding homophobic jokes. 💽 LunaEclipse 💽 🌹 ⚧ (CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST) 02:08, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
