- Reminder. This AfD has been just been relisted for the third time. I don't know if any of this wikiproject's participants have seen this or commented on the AfD or not, but I'm hoping enough participants engage in this AfD so it isn't relisted again. ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 18:50, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

Unrealized projects
[edit]Discussion has begun recently in regards to this branch of article, such as Steven Spielberg's unrealized projects and Luca Guadagnino's unrealized projects, about what exactly constitutes an unrealized project, and even whether a list of this nature is noteworthy. The definition highlighted on pages such as Spielberg's states "During his long career, American film director Steven Spielberg has worked on a number of projects which never progressed beyond the pre-production stage under his direction. Some of these projects fell in "development hell" or were officially canceled, some were turned over to other production teams, and still others never made it past the speculative stage." Recently however, editors seem to be stretching that definition to include projects offered, projects that the filmmaker is still working on, and even hypotheticals posed that never had or was considered to have any development. This makes the pages unwieldy and subject to alot of unnoteworthy, incorrect or trivial entries, and it seems there needs to be a solidified consensus about this. @Erik:, @ZanderAlbatraz1145:, @Nils2088: Rusted AutoParts 19:53, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
DAB or list entry?
[edit]Recently, Cremastra moved LGBTQ in Russia to LGBTQ topics in Russia. Same with LGBTQ topics in the United States. The title is not ambiguous anymore. And similar to Discrimination against LGBTQ people and LGBTQ literature, this looks like a list entry. I think this is better this way right now, but I do think {{Dab}} should be replaced with {{Set index article}}. Take also a look in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBTQ+ studies#Standardizing 'by country' articles.
And another question is: LGBTQ topics in Mexico redirects to its broad-concept article ({{r from merge}}), so the same should happen with USA, right? LIrala (talk) 08:16, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for realizing this. I suppose that yes, since it's now a list of topics, it should be a set index. Cremastra 🎄 u — c 🎄 12:48, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Question about glossary of nautical terms (and potentially glossaries generally)
[edit]Having stumbled on glossary of nautical terms (A–L) and glossary of nautical terms (M–Z), I have a question. How do glossaries fit into Wikipedia? The talk pages indicate that they're considered lists, but there's also an inactive Wikipedia:WikiProject Glossaries (it being inactive is why I'm asking here instead). I'm unclear on how glossaries don't go against the longstanding expectation that the project isn't a dictionary. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 05:17, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hydrangeans, My feeling is that if you look at either of those pages, you will find numerous differencies between the entries in the glossary, and what you might find in a dictionary.
- Multi-word terms: plenty of entries are 2- or 3-word terms such as admiralty law (Merriam-Webster link1) or amphibious warfare ship (M-W link2) that are not to be found in dictionaries; even specialized single-word terms like afterbrow (M-W link3) are not.
- Topic focus: Another difference, is the focus on the topic; i.e., these are descriptions of nautical terms, not general English words. For example, in the case of this nautical glossary, you have the word about, which is defined as
- To change the course of a ship by tacking. "Ready about" is the order to prepare for tacking.
- Topic focus: Another difference, is the focus on the topic; i.e., these are descriptions of nautical terms, not general English words. For example, in the case of this nautical glossary, you have the word about, which is defined as
- However, if you look up the word about in a dictionary (M-W link4), you will find a whole lot of definitions there, but none of them are about tacking a boat.
- Integration into the encyclopedia: Another difference is the extent to which the entries are really descriptions of a topic, interconnected with related topics in the encyclopedia. For example, the entry aback links it to these articles in the description of it:
- Dictionary definitions are not like that.
- I would point out that all those links in aback are to other entries of the same glossary, not to other articles in the encyclopedia. But more importantly, I see what you mean about how this glossary, although on one level providing 'definitions' as a dictionary does, is moreover providing descriptions of nautical elements that amount to topics, thus going beyond a general dictionary of a language. Thank you for the explanation. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 07:04, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
