General elections were held in Spain on 8 March 1871 to elect the 391 members of the Congress of Deputies. The Progressive-Liberal coalition won the elections.
Background
[edit]The elections were held under universal male suffrage following the promulgation of the 1869 constitution. They were also the first held during the brief reign of Amadeo I. Francisco Serrano, a member of the Liberal Union (part of the Progressive–Liberal coalition), was the prime minister before the elections.
