  • Bon Jovi releases their 16th studio album, Forever. The album is the first since singer Jon Bon Jovi's major throat surgery that almost forced him to retire from singing and made him have to relearn how to talk completely prior to its recording. It is the biggest selling album of the week in the US, and debuts at number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 50,000 album equivalent units. However, in its second week, the album achieves the record for largest drop on the chart, falling entirely out of the top 200.[64][65][66][67][68]

Future releases

[edit]
  • Korn plans to release their fifteenth studio album. Members have stated that they aim to meld their "vintage" sound with a "modern twist", and that it's going into a heavier direction. The band concurrently plans on celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first album, Korn (1994).[107][108]
  • Swedish band Ghost is scheduled to release their sixth studio album. Frontman Tobias Forge revealed that he had a few songs written for the album in late 2023.[109]
  • Deftones are scheduled to release their tenth studio album in mid-2024. Work on the album began in early 2023, and will be their third album working with music producer Nick Raskulinecz.[110]
  • Guns N' Roses are working on their seventh studio album. In 2022, guitarist Slash stated that the band's plans include releasing singles until there's an album's worth of material recorded, and then releasing it after 2023 touring. The album will be their first since Chinese Democracy (2008), and their first to feature original members Slash and bassist Duff McKagan since Use Your Illusion (1991).[111][112][113]
  • Australian progressive rock band Karnivool has recorded an album's worth of material, which would be its first release in over a decade. Work on material began as early as 2016, but has progressed slowly due to all band members growing older, starting families, and living in different areas now. The band hasn't decided if material will be released as a full album, or broken up across multiple EPs.[114][115]
  • The Pretty Reckless are scheduled to release their fifth studio album. Recording for the album began in mid-2023.[116]
  • Social Distortion is scheduled to release their eighth studio album. The band's follow-up to 2011's Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes was originally set for release in 2023, but vocalist and guitarist Mike Ness' diagnosis with stage one tonsil cancer delayed the album's release to early the next year.[117]
  • Jane's Addiction announced plans in 2021 to release their first new material in a decade. Frontman Perry Farrell said that a full album is unlikely.[118][119]
  • Limp Bizkit is working on their seventh studio album. The band plans to work on new material during sound checks because their 2024 touring schedule is so heavy.[120]
  • Former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is set to release his debut solo studio album.[121] It is his first time making new music after the band abruptly disbanded in early January 2024.[122]

Tours and festivals

[edit]

Band breakups

[edit]
  • Issues disbanded following three farewell shows that took place in January 2024.[136]
  • Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk announced their third disbandment on January 3, 2024.[137]
  • Candlebox disband following the conclusion of touring in support of their final album.[138]
  • Porno for Pyros disbanded following their 2024 farewell tour.[139]
  • Off! announced their disbandment after three farewell shows in July 2024.[140]
  • Jane's Addiction enters a hiatus following frontman Perry Farrell initiating a physical altercation mid-song with guitarist Dave Navarro at a live show in September.[141]
  • Following Dave Grohl's public disclosure that he had fathered a child outside of his active marriage in September, the Foo Fighters announced they would be entering an indefinite hiatus.[142]
  • NOFX disbanded after playing their final ever live shows after 41 years of performing in October 2024.[143]
