The word Alamogordo was coined by Americans in the late 1800s, joining two Spanish words: "Alama" (poplar or cottonwood trees) and "gordo" (large or stout). However, the term "Almagordo" was not used in the Spanish language.
Alamogordo is the seat of Otero County, New Mexico, United Statesm and the first use of the new word.
