Spurious detection of error
[edit]Wikipedia is detecting the error where it does not exist. For example:
Some wear masks, and some don't.<ref>{{cite news |author1=Luis Ferré-Sadurní |author2=Shawn Hubler |date=June 15, 2021 |title='A Momentous Day': New York and California Lift Most Virus Restrictions |newspaper=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/15/nyregion/coronavirus-restrictions.html |postscript=. Article includes several pictures showing people with and without face masks.}}</ref></talk></nowiki>
generates:
Some wear masks, and some don't.[1]

The error doesn't go away if |postscript=
doesn't start with a period, as you can see by doing your own experiment. —Anomalocaris (talk) 22:31, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- Category:CS1 maint: postscript is not an error category.
- Here is a link to the
|postscript=
documentation. The parameter is intended to control the terminal punctuation of a cs1|2 template; it is not intended as a dumping ground for any and all text that editors want to place there. When the value assigned to|postscript=
has more than one character, Module:Citation/CS1 emits this maintenance category because 'terminal punctuation' that is more than one character is considered to be extraneous text. Rewrite the citation this way:{{cite news |author1=Luis Ferré-Sadurní |author2=Shawn Hubler |date=June 15, 2021 |title='A Momentous Day': New York and California Lift Most Virus Restrictions |newspaper=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/15/nyregion/coronavirus-restrictions.html |url-access=subscription}} Article includes several pictures showing people with and without face masks.
