"A Bolha" or "A Bolha de Victor Hugo" is a Brazilian online reality show criated and presented by Victor Hugo Teixeira since May 6, 2024.[1][2]
Background
[edit]In 2020, Victor Hugo gained national fame by participating in the reality show Big Brother Brasil 20, where he was the 7th eliminated with 85.22% of the votes.[3] According to Victor Hugo, the idea for creating the reality show came about in 2019, during his film course, before his participation in Big Brother Brasil 20. He tried to air the show in 2020, during the pandemic, but was unsuccessful.[4]
Show Format
[edit]The program works completely online, where participants talk to the presenter via video conference. The dynamics are carried out through tests, such as drinking two liters of water in one minute[5][6] and voting. The public can choose who to eliminate from the 3 chosen for the Estouro dynamic, through polls on Victor's Instagram profile and on Google Forms.
- Bolha Mestre: The group of participants with the best performance in the tests, who can choose their own destiny and that of the other competitors.
- Estouro: Three players are selected for elimination by the public. The three can be chosen through tests, when voted on by the other participants, or by Victor Hugo's decision.
- Bolha Geral: All participants communicate, using only videos to be played in the program's editing.
- Bolha de Espinho: Similar to the Bolha Geral, but with only two participants who use it to resolve their differences.
- Bolha do Amor: Similar to the Bolha de Espinho, but with the intention of flirting.

Reception
[edit]During the first few weeks of the show's airing, A Bolha quickly went viral and the public made several jokes about its precariousness. The main topics of jokes were the audio being blown out – which made it difficult to understand some of the words Victor Hugo was saying – and almost no participant having answered him in the Discord call for the first episode, in addition to the prize having been initially reported as R$800, a comic book, a raspberry, a sugarcane juice and a pastel, even though the prize was cumulative and the final prize had already been pre-defined and informed to the participants by the reality show's production team.[4][8][9]
Controversies
[edit]In the first endurance test, Carol Versa was challenged to drink two liters of water at once. Because of this, she ended up feeling unwell, leaving the frame of her camera, which caused concern among internet users and other participants. During the episode, Victor Hugo said that "all participants are of legal age, they know their limits, they can stop at any time" and that "they are aware that they cannot exceed their limits and/or put their health at risk under any circumstances".[5][6]
