Cyril O'Boyle (23 February 1926 - 2017) was an Irish long distance running athlete. Born in Bealcruit, Roses, before emigrating for a short time with his parents to the USA. He returned to Letterkenny, working in St Conal's Hospital. He later emigrated to Scotland. He returned, aged 54, to spend the rest of his life in Breenagh, Letterkenny.[1]
He was the first Donegal man to win an Irish national cross country title in 1951. Also that same year he came first in the Ulster Junior and Senior and National Junior and Senior titles. Nobody has matched this achievement to date. He competed with Strabane AC.[2]
In 1952, he won the Irish 1500m title, the 1 mile title on 1953 and the 4 mile title in 1954.[3]
In 2016, O'Boyle was the first person to be inducted into the Donegal Athletics' "hall of fame".[1]
