Francine Mbanza Jensen (born 1987) is a Burundian-Norwegian social scientist, entrepreneur, and diversity advocate known for her contributions to multicultural entrepreneurship, sustainability, and regional development in Norway.

Early life and education

Francine Mbanza Jensen was born in Burundi in 1987. At the age of 19, she moved to Norway, where she pursued higher education. She earned a degree in Human Geography from the University of Bergen (UiB),[1] specializing in economic geography, regional development, and entrepreneurship. She further obtained a Master's degree, with her thesis focusing on multicultural entrepreneurship UiB Thesis Archive.

Career

Jensen has established herself as a leader in promoting diversity and inclusion in entrepreneurship and the workforce. She is the co-founder of Cre8 Gründerhus, an initiative aimed at empowering immigrant entrepreneurs by fostering connections and providing resources for business development.

In addition to her work with Cre8 Gründerhus, Jensen founded Unity Spark,[2] an organization dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs from multicultural backgrounds. Unity Spark offers mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and business resources to help individuals start and grow their businesses in Norway.[3]

Jensen is also the leader of Empo Flerkulturelt Ressurssenter, a division at Kirkens Bymisjon in Bergen, focusing on enhancing multicultural resource development Kirkens Bymisjon Bergen.[4]

Advocacy and public engagement

Jensen is an active public speaker and advocate for equality and diversity. She has contributed to public debates, written articles, and participated in conferences discussing topics related to diversity and inclusion. She is a key figure in 0,22-nettverket, an initiative promoting diversity in leadership positions across sectors.

She is also recognized for her creative projects, including publishing the Bergen Spere magazine Bergen Spere Issue 1 and creating the Norwegian-Burundian comic book hero Kira, aimed at inspiring youth through storytelling.

Recognition

In December 2023, Jensen was awarded Bergen Municipality's Equality and Diversity Prize for her exceptional work in promoting the inclusion of minorities, particularly minority women, in the workforce.[5] The award highlighted her contributions to improving opportunities for marginalized communities.

Jensen's initiatives have been credited with creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for multicultural entrepreneurs in Norway. Her work with organizations like Cre8 Gründerhus and Unity Spark continues to inspire new generations of leaders from diverse backgrounds.[1]
