- Comment: He has made a good start to his career with a few quite well cited papers. However, an h-factor of 9 is low. Also he has only just been promoted to associate professor (2024), and it is rare that anyone below full professor passes the bar for academics, WP:NPROF. He is on track to get there, but I think it will be a few more years. Major national awards would have a large impact, but I don't see any as yet. Ldm1954 (talk) 20:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Serhiy Kozak is a Ukrainian–American economist and associate professor of finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park.[1] His research focuses on empirical asset pricing, financial economics, and the use of machine learning in finance.[2]
Academic career
[edit]Kozak earned his Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2013.[1] He began his academic career as an assistant professor of finance at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business (2013–2019).[3] In 2019, he joined the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2024.[1][4]
Research
[edit]Kozak’s work examines how financial markets price risk and explores applications of machine learning to finance.[5] His research has been published in several academic journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies.[2]

Awards
[edit]Kozak received the Fama–DFA Prize for the Best Paper Published in the Journal of Financial Economics in 2020[12] and the Q-Group Jack Treynor Prize in 2018.[13] In 2024, he received the Allen J. Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Maryland.[14]

[edit]Kozak holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an M.A. in Economics from Charles University (CERGE-EI), and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Lviv University.
