Shaadaab Shakoore (born 28 October 1980), also known as Shahdaab Bhartiya, is an Indian film composer, record producer, singer, and songwriter who predominantly works in the Indian film industry. He is widely recognized for his contributions to Indian classical music, fusion, and film scoring.

Early Life

Shakoore's musical journey began at the age of six when he started learning to play the tabla. His early passion for music was cultivated under the mentorship of Tabla Maestro Pt. Maangi Lalji. To further refine his skills, he continued his studies with Pt. Yendeji at Sangeet Kala Mahabharti and under the guidance of Taal Yogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkarji. In addition to tabla, Shakoore expanded his musical knowledge by learning various forms of drumming and Bollywood music styles from his uncle, Rais Jamal, and Pt. Suresh Soniji.

Throughout his school years, Shakoore actively participated in tabla performances, showcasing his developing skills and deepening commitment to music. At the age of 15, he had the opportunity to study under Ustad Hidayat Khan Sahab, a prominent figure from the Delhi and Jaipur Gharana, which significantly enhanced his technical expertise and understanding of rhythm and classical compositions.

Shaadaab Shakoore is a versatile tabla player, singer, and music composer. In 1998, he was awarded the "Taal Mani" title by Sur Singer Samsand in Bombay, acknowledging his dedication and talent in the field of music. Throughout his career, Shaadaab has collaborated with several renowned artists, including Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Louis Banks, Hariharan, Leni Stern, Apache Indian, Kathak legend Pandit Sitara Devi, Shreya Ghosal, Shaan, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, among others.

Shaadaab has made notable contributions to both Indian and international music scenes, particularly in the realms of commercial tabla playing and film music composition. He is also recognized for his work in the fusion genre, blending traditional Indian classical music with influences from world music, R&B, and Latin styles. This fusion has set him apart as a pioneering figure in the music world.

In addition to his musical achievements, Shaadaab founded Misba Records, a music label, and organizes the Hidayat Khan Music Festival through Shakoore Productions. This festival serves as a platform for emerging musicians to showcase their talents. He is also known for his educational efforts, with his musical workshops receiving acclaim for their impact in deepening students' understanding of music.

Legacy

Shaadaab Shakoore comes from a distinguished musical lineage with deep roots in Indian classical music. His great-grandfather, Ustad Abdul Qadar Basqah, was a renowned court musician in Sailana, Madhya Pradesh, and Bissau State, Rajasthan. His grandfather, Ustad Jamaluddin Bhartiya, was a prominent sitarist and an advanced student of Shri Pandit Ravi Shankar Ji. Ustad Jamaluddin's contributions to Indian classical music were significant, and he was the founder and Director General of the Academy Europe Holland, which later evolved into the Star Netherland. Shaadaab’s father, Ustad Roshan Jamal Bhartiya, is also a renowned sitarist, further enriching the family’s musical heritage.

Shaadaab Shakoore has continued to build on this rich tradition, contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of Indian classical music. He blends classical influences with modern elements, appealing to a global audience. His efforts not only honor his family's legacy but also help shape the future of both Indian classical and fusion music. Shaadaab’s work has inspired countless aspiring musicians.
