Ulrick Dam (born September 26, 1989, in Ringsted, Denmark) is a Danish pastor, theologian, and coach, widely recognized for his work in Open and Relational Theology. Drawing on his experience in ministry and leadership, he developed a framework for Open and Relational ecclesiology and leadership, aiming to foster authentic community engagement and spiritual growth. Through his coaching practice, Dam combines theological insight with relational principles, encouraging collaborative and compassionate approaches to faith and personal development.
Building on this foundation, Dam’s central theological perspective emphasizes the believer’s active role in building the Kingdom of God in the here and now. Rooted in Open and Relational Theology, his approach underscores the dynamic relationship between the divine and humanity—one in which Christians co-create with God, shaping communities through compassion, justice, and empathy. Dam advocates for a faith practice that transcends traditional church boundaries. Early life and education
[edit]Ulrick Dam was raised in the Danish countryside between Ringsted and Køge, where faith and community played an integral part of his upbringing. His family was deeply involved in the Apostolic Church in Denmark, serving as teachers at one of its schools. From an early age, Dam participated in worship bands and youth ministries, though he did not envision himself in formal church leadership at first. This perspective shifted as he took on volunteer and leadership responsibilities at Brorsonskirke in Nørrebro, an experience that awakened his passion for ministry and theological exploration.
Eager to deepen his knowledge, Dam enrolled at UC Diakonissestiftelsen, earning a bachelor’s degree in Christianity, Culture, and Communication in 2016. His curiosity about church dynamics and effective community engagement led him to further studies at Ansgar Teologiske Høyskole, where he completed a master’s degree in Leadership and Congregational Development in 2020. During this period, he discovered the works of Peter Rollins and Thomas Jay Oord, which spurred him to embrace the tenets of Open and Relational Theology—an approach that emphasizes the collaborative, evolving relationship between God and humanity.Kevin Bechmann Tim (March 4, 2024). Dam’s early hands-on roles—from leading youth initiatives at Brorsonskirke (beginning in 2009) and uKirke (in 2014) to serving as a pastor trainee at Amagerbro Frikirke in 2016—allowed him to hone his leadership skills and practical theology. In 2022, he accepted a pastoral position at Sjølundkirken, an Apostolic Church community, where he further refined his Open and Relational ecclesiology. Seeking to engage more progressive faith communities, he transitioned to Kløvermarkskirken (a Baptist church) in 2024, continuing to cultivate inclusive, forward-thinking models for congregational life.
