Early life and education
[edit]Yung Lord Fine$$ was born and raised in Upstate New York. His musical background originated during his elementary school years at Brown School, where he developed guitar, public speaking, and performing arts skills. He then attended Niskayuna High School, where he began experimenting with freestyles and writing his own rap lyrics. During high school, he acquired the stage name "Yung Lord Fine$$" from a fellow SoundCloud rapper during an encounter in Spanish class. As Mark returned to his seat, the rapper spontaneously declared him as "Yung Lord Fine$$," which has since become the moniker that has remained firmly affixed to him.
Following high school, Yung Lord Fine$$ enrolled in the biology program at Siena College for his first and second years of college. He later transferred to the University at Albany to continue his junior and senior years of biology education. While attending UAlbany, he achieved Dean's List status for the Fall Semester of 2023 and was subsequently inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success in April 2024. In May 2024, Yung Lord Fine$$ graduated from the University at Albany with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.
During the summer of 2023, Fine$$ founded his record label, YLF Records™, an innovative music label and limited liability company based in New York State that showcases diverse talents by nurturing artists' creativity, offering a platform for dynamic musical expression and professional growth.
Music career
[edit]2019–2021: Early mixtapes and releases
[edit]Fine$$'s career as an artist began with his first rap lyrics, "Drip on Me" and "Louis the Snakes," written in 2019. These early lyrics were a starting point for his development as a rapper but ultimately remained unreleased. He continued to write lyrics and refine his craft, producing a series of collaborations initially released but later taken down to perfect his craft.
One of his earliest collaborations was with TheKingJB, which resulted in the tracks "Don't Forget" and "Balllin," which were initially released but later removed from music platforms. Fine$$ also collaborated with M.T. on "You Lost Me," which remains available on YLF Records™ streaming platforms.
In addition to these collaborations, Fine$$ also released several solo tracks, including "Big Dreams," his first official single, and "Tell Me You Love Me,” written in February 2021, which later featured on his debut album. "Big Dreams" remains a significant milestone in Fine$$'s music career despite being taken down.
It is worth noting that Fine$$ has also worked on other unreleased tracks, including "Bag Secured (Through Da Storm - Polo G Remix)" and "Friends Turn Enemies," which have never been publicly released.
2021: Debut single "Lost" and first performance
[edit]Fine$$’s music career launched with his first-ever performance, which took place at Nigro Plaza of Sarazen Student Union at Siena College in April 2021, marking his first official performance in front of a crowd. He was the runner-up at the Musical Mayhem 2021 competition, where the winner had the opportunity to open for Jason Derulo at Siena Fest (2021), Siena College's annual music festival, exclusively for enrolled students.
Fine$$'s debut single, "Lost", was released on August 27, 2021, marking a significant milestone in his music career. The song was released on the anniversary of the day Fine$$ met his ex-partner, an event that would profoundly impact his life and artistry. The short-lived relationship ultimately catalyzed Fine$$'s growth and self-discovery, reflected in his lyrics.
The song is collaborative with Valious, a Dutch artist who provided the hook, while Fine$$ handled the verse. The lyrics describe the feeling of emptiness and longing that comes with being apart from someone but ultimately conclude with a message of self-empowerment and liberation.
2022–Present: Every Lord Needs a Lady
[edit]On December 31, 2022, Yung Lord Fine$$ released his debut album, "Every Lord Needs a Lady," after two years of experimentation and growth. During this time, Fine$$ explored various genres and themes, drawing inspiration from his emotions and experiences. The album features a range of genres, including rap, pop, and "opera-like" elements.
The tracklist is arranged chronologically, telling the story of Fine$$'s life over the course of those two years. It is divided into two distinct themes: the first half focuses on heartbreak, while the second explores love.
The production process for "Every Lord Needs a Lady" had its challenges. Initially, Fine$$ worked with a studio that failed to deliver a satisfactory product. Despite addressing issues and making necessary edits, the studio still overlooked a crucial detail: a beat tag that was supposed to be removed.
Fine$$ reworked the single from the album with a new studio, dedicating almost a year to perfecting the final audio. The revised album was re-released without any notice, resulting in a superior product permanently available on all streaming services.
The debut album "Every Lord Needs a Lady" is a testament to Fine$$'s perseverance and dedication to his craft. Despite setbacks and challenges, he has emerged with a high-quality product that showcases his artistic growth and versatility.
