Good Mythical Morning is an American Web series hosted by Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal. Created in 2012 by co-hosts McLaughlin and Neal, the series centers around a singular topic for the episode and ending the episode with the "Wheel of Mythicality," a wheel that contains suggestions from fans on how they should end the show, often followed by an improvised scene.

Since its creation, the series has expanded including guest hosts including Bella Thorne,[1] Luke Bryan,[2] and Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan of the Game Grumps. Since the show's inception, there has been multiple spinoffs including Good Mythical MORE, Mythical Kitchen, Mythical Bits, and a podcast called Ear Biscuits. As of April 2025, Good Mythical Morning has over 19 million subscribers and over 10 billion views.[3]

History

[edit]

On January 3, 2011, McLaughlin and Neal launched a morning talk show "Good Morning Chia Lincoln" in their studio in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, with an Abraham Lincoln Chia Pet as a centerpiece. The series was set around a topic per episode which often came from personal experiences or a news story, and the duo would discuss about it. The series ended on February 28, 2011, due to half of the Chia Pet dying.

After deciding to move to Los Angeles, and the cancelation of their TV show, Commercial Kings, the duo launch another morning talk show Good Mythical Morning, which launched on January 9, 2012.The two repurposed an old YouTube channel that was created on September 17, 2008. The new series took the same format as their previous endeavor and added a "Wheel of Mythicality", which contained suggestions from fans on how they would end the show.

At the shows inception, it was uploading new episodes daily, the series' first episode titled "Extremely OCD Morning Routine", and continued uploading daily for three seasons which ended on April 5, 2013. During the break, the duo started a half hour YouTube variety show called The Mythical Show. The series was well received and was nominated for multiple International Academy of Web Television Awards.[4]

The fourth season of the series introduced the "Taste Test" series where the hosts guess food items while blindfolded, challenge themselves to eat something or compare it to a particular type of food across different brands. Some of the more popular episodes were "Ghost Pepper Challenge", "Bug War Challenge", and "Siracha Challenge". Season five added the "Will It" series, where the hosts try and invent different varieties of a famous type of food with unusual and often increasing levels of disgusting ingredients. The first episode was aired on May 5, 2014 on Cinco de Mayo titled "Will it Taco" where they tried pine needles, baby shampoo and pork blood tacos. The series gain widespread popularity and was even featured on multiple episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.[5][6][7][8]

Once The Mythical Show ended on July 11, 2013, the duo continued with the Good Mythical Morning series, but with the additional spinoff series called Good Mythical MORE, which the duo call "the show after the show". Episodes would be simultaneously uploaded to a separate channel in addition to their GMM channel. While the GMM content was more structured and scripted, the new videos on the 'Good Mythical More' was the hosts more improvised nature that the original series had originally. Season 6 of Good Mythical Morning premiered on July 14, 2014, with a new introduction sequence and animation created by Digital Twigs and music by Pomplamoose.[9] By this point several notable personalities appeared on the series, including PewDiePie, Mayim Bialik, Shay Mitchell, Bill Hader, Amy Schumer,[10] Daniel Radcliffe[11][12] have all ben guests on the series.

The 1000th episode of Good Mythical Morning premiered on October 13, 2016. The episode was titled "1000th Episode Celebration Special" and has been viewed over 3.34 million times as of April 10, 2025. On October 19, the first episode of YouTube Premium, formerly known as YouTube Red, original series Rhett & Link's Buddy System aired on the Good Mythical Morning channel. On July 23, 2021, the 2000th episode of Good Mythical Morning premiered. The video was titled "2000th Episode Celebration Special" and have been viewed nearly 2 million times as of April 10, 2025.[13]

In October 2021, the series premiered another spinoff titled Good Mythical Evening, a pay-per-view livestream event that was not available on YouTube.[14] Rhett and Link described the show as a "decidedly R-rated spin on 'Good Mythical Morning'" the show featured cursing, drinking, and adult content that was not suitable to YouTube's terms and conditions. The series is held yearly. In 2022, the series was in conversation with the long list of potential Emmy Awards for the outstanding short form comedy, but eventually did not make the list.[15]
