Matthew Jude Kelly (born December 6, 1990) known profesionally as M Works is a Canadian born music video director. Kelly has been credited for directing over 300 music videos including popular artists such as Pressa, Smiley, Raz Fresco, Smoke Dawg, Puffy Lz, Yung Tory Baka Not Nice, Roney Nav[1], Junia-T, JRDN and Rich Kidd and Prime Boys[2]

Early Life

Kelly was born in Toronto, Ontario to Jamaican and African American parents Jude Kelly and Florence Dunn. He attended Woodlands High School in Mississauga. He is also the grandson of National Football League and Canadian Football League lineman Ellison Kelly.[3]

Career

2008-2011

Kelly completed a digital cinematography course at George Brown College. From 2011 to 2012, he co-produced "Juno Hoops," a celebrity basketball game curated by the Juno Awards that featured entertainers such as Donovan Bailey, Preme, Keysha Fresh JRDN, JDiggz and Glenn Lewis.[4] In 2012 Kelly completed a internship at Face Films, a Greater Toronto Area video production house.

2013-2020: Early career

In 2013, Kelly founded 'M Works,' a hip-hop channel that would become one of the top urban music platforms in Canada. His work has been featured on CBC[5], Vice[6], Complex[7] and Exclaim.[8]

2021 - Present

In 2023 Kelly would launch the M Works Film Festivala annual event at the Innis Town Hall theatre that celebrates film in Canada.[9] In the same year he would also launch the WBK Academy, a film and animation workshop.

In addition to music video, Kelly has directed two short films. Mind of the Mask alongside Dragan Andic[10] and Wander. In 2024 he would produce the short film Cycles. Kelly has received multiple awards from Music Canada for contributing to records that achieved certified Canadian gold status.[11]
