Miriam Noemí Ríos Ríos (1985 – 11 Jan 2024) was a Mexican political activist for LGBT rights,[1] and a leader of the State Operational Commission of the Citizens' Movement Party (MC).[2]
Activism
[edit]Ríos joined the Citizens' Movement Party in 2020,[3] and was a candidate for city councilor in the 2021 Mexican local elections under MC.[4][5] She worked as director for the municipal committee in Jacona de Plancarte.[6][7]
Personal life
[edit]Ríos was born in 1985 in Zamora de Hidalgo. She was transgender.[8]
Assassination
[edit]On January 11, 2024, Ríos was assassinated on Juárez Avenue in the Libertard neighborhood of Zamora de Hidalgo.[9][10] Politicians of her party and fellow activists in the community such as Vive Libre Jacona condemned the killing and demanded the police force look into the case, referring to the killing as transfemicide.[11][12] She was one of nearly 3 dozen Mexican politicians who were killed in the leadup to the 2024 Mexican elections.[13]
