Nepal Earthquake 3rd Nov, 2023
[edit]on 3rd nov, 2023 Nepal's seismometer measuere earthquake of 6.4 M, came from 10km deep and shook about 20 sec. But USGS report say 5.7 M, how can we decide which one is correct? 113.199.230.8 (talk) 13:57, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- A quick lookup on the National Earthquake Monitoring & Research Center's website shows the ML has been revised to 5.8, no longer the 6.4 reported by mainstream media. Both ML and Mww values are correct, they vary because the earthquake was measured on different scales using different calibration methods. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 14:21, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- I looked up the citing source and verified that there was a change in the information presented. However the USGS is reporting that it is 6.7 M. See https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000l9ku/executive Jurisdicta (talk) 17:56, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Jurisdicta that's a completely unrelated earthquake in the Banda Sea Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 18:38, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- You are correct, I stand corrected. The data reported is correct as cited by this source: https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/nepal-hit-by-64-earthquake-felt-new-delhi-2023-11-03/ Jurisdicta (talk) 03:37, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
