What does that have to do with the addition you tried to make to the article? O Fenian (talk) 01:59, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved: Blazon of arms doesn't match the picture

[edit]

In the blazon, there's no mention of the canton, which I'd expect to look something like "Argent, a saltire azure charged with an escutcheon of the Royal Arms of Scotland", "argent, a saltire azure, inescutchioned Or a Lion rampant Gules, armed and langued Azure, within a Double-Tressure flory counter-flory Gules", or "the arms of Nova Scotia". Either the blazon is incomplete or the image is incorrect. I don't know which, and even if I did, I'm not confident in blazonese to add the canton to the blazon, nor in SVG to alter the image.

I'm also surprised that these arms appear to have a Nova Scotia canton and not a red hand sinister, which you'd usually expect for the peerage of Ireland. I think this needs a subject specialist. Juroreight (talk) 09:04, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Page 147 of Debrett's Peerage 1840 shows no canton. Juroreight (talk) 19:23, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And yet page 1307 of 2019 shows the canton in the picture, but doesn't mention it in the blazon, as the article also shows. I'm left puzzled. Juroreight (talk) 19:41, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
