State and district leagues
[edit]Hello, I had changed the link of West Bengal in the state leagues section from Bengal Premier League Soccer to Calcutta Premier Division and the edit was reverted by The Discoverer. But the Bengal Premier League Soccer is a non-existent tournament which was supposed to be privately organised and not even supported by the AIFF though the IFA did support it. Since the Calcutta Premier Division is the most important football league of the state, so I think the West Bengal link should be directed to it. I do agree that the Calcutta League is already listed as a part of the district leagues and in that case the link to Bengal Premier League can simply be removed as it does not truly represent a state league. Please let me know what you think of this. Thank you, --Milesandkilometrestogo (talk) 08:26, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Milesandkilometrestogo, you have a valid point. Clearly, it would be inappropriate to have a league listed in two places (state and district), and that's why I reverted your edit. As you said, CPD could be considered as the state league, because it is run by the state body IFA, and not a district body. On the other hand, I think we should take into account whether the CPD provides an opportunity for clubs from all over the state to take part in order to be considered as the state league or is particiation limited to clubs in and around Calcutta. Are there clubs from the north of the state in the CPD? If not I think we can stay with the status quo. Let us also see the opinions of other wikipedians. - Hello The Discoverer, I do totally agree with you. But my concern is that Bengal Premier League Soccer is a non-existent tournament and so I suggest that we should follow the Maharashtra example where the Mumbai Football League has been added as a district league and there is no league listed as a Maharashtra State League. So I think that removing the state league link for West Bengal altogether will be a better solution. We can wait for the opinions of other Wikipedians. - Here I would also like to add that the state leagues for Karnataka and Meghalaya are linked to Bangalore Super Division and Shillong Premier League respectively. They should be moved to district leagues as well. Also the link for Tripura directs to Tripura Football Association page and not any Tripura League page. I think we need to rectify all these. It should be Calcutta Football League instead. Keep in mind that the league does play throughout Bengal. In fact, last season, the final game was in Siliguri which is all the way up in the North of West Bengal. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 17:28, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Based on the discussion, I have made CPD the state league for Bengal. I have changed the link for Tripura to a redlink 'Tripura Football League' similar to the links for other states that do not have leagues articles. I have also changed the title of this discussion to reflect the wider scope of the discussion.
- As for the other states, we need to again see whether Bangalore Senior Division is Bangalore-specific or involves the whole of Karnataka. We have to also keep in mind that it is run by BDFA and not by the Karnataka SFA. As for Meghalaya, I expect that being a small state, Shillong League must be organised by the state association and involves the entire state, despite its name. Then there is also Maharashtra and the Mumbai League, but I think we can list it in the district leagues because it is run by the Mumbai Dist. FA and involves only Mumbai teams. The Discoverer (talk) 05:12, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- It varies. If you asked the AIFF and state associations they would say that the Bangalore league is the top league of Karnataka and that the Shillong League is the top league for Meghalaya. However that would not be the case for the Mumbai League as they also have other regions that do leagues like Pune, Kolhapur, and Nagpur to name a few. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 05:18, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the changes. Milesandkilometrestogo (talk) 11:11, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
2017 U-17 World Cup
[edit]Isn't it important to add the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in here, being that it was the first FIFA tournament ever held in India? 200.217.197.55 (talk) 11:42, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
