Notes
[edit]The template for Template:MelbournePublicTransport appears at the bottom of a number of other templates, such as Template:MelbourneBusCompany, Template:MelbourneTramClasses, Template:MelbourneTrainLines, and Template:MelbourneBuses. If you want this infobox to have 3 columns, then these other Templates need to be edited accordingly, otherwise the whole thing looks terrible; or atlernatively, these other template boxes need to be edited so the information in the MelbournePublicTransport template is manually entered into these other templates. For the time being, I've editeded back down to 2 columns. Cheers, AmishThrasher 05:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Victoria's Public Transport
[edit]Perhaps a retitling is in order? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.34.63.1 (talk) 04:10, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Major Reformatting
[edit]As no work has been done on this template and the information across all Melbourne public transport was disjointed, this template has been the subject of a major redesign and cleanup. It is no longer transcluded inside infoboxes and is designed to be included at the bottom of all relevant pages. It has also enabled a much improved display and sorting of information for use on all pages across the relevant information category. I'm hoping this goes some way to improving Melbourne's public transport information pages on WP. Thewinchester (talk) 17:43, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Trains
[edit]just looking at this template, does it really need to include Trains which no longer run on the public transport system? these being the Tait, Swing Door, Harris, 4D and the A Class steam loco hauling MTH carriages? --Dan027 12:25, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Please note pictures. MTH carriages are hauled by an A class diesel electric (see first picture). You've somehow managed to confuse a V/Line A class diesel electric with a Victorian Railways A2 class steam locomotive (see second picture), a locomotive which has not run since 1963, and then include the A2 steam loco into the template as the "A class", then ask why we should include the A class into the template when it's a steam locomotive! It's not! Zzrbiker 13:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- I actually asked "does it really need to include Trains which no longer run on the public transport system?" my bad on the A class though. --Dan027 08:14, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Trains
[edit]Do Sprinters need to be listed on this? Unlike MTH cars they are not owned by a metropolitan public transport operator, they operate a service within the Metcard area though. I suggest we also add every other type of train that V/Line has (minus BS cars) as those are used on Sunbury services which do not leave the metropolitan area. Somebody in the WWW (talk) 13:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- The Stony Point service is operated under the suburban franchise agreement, whereas the Sunbury services are operated under the regional franchise agreement. Stony Point = suburban, Sunbury = regional (it's suburban only in terms of ticketing).
- Therefore listing the Sunbury stock would certainly not be appropriate. I'd say listing the Sprinter is appropriate, as they are the only type of train that runs the Stony Point service, a purely suburban operation (technically speaking). --Evan C (Talk) 13:29, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Glad you picked up the large amount of sarcasm in the Sunbury comment ;) Somebody in the WWW (talk) 09:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry SiTWWW, but I disregard any sarcasm in your comments - that's coming from a pretty darn sarcastic person! --Evan C (Talk) 11:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- Do we really need any of the trains linked in this template? It really just serves to link the 'top level' themes and lists, and the operators. You can get between the trains with their own template which already exists. Wongm (talk) 14:47, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed entirely. Actioned, revert if necessary. --Evan C (Talk) 11:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Proposal
[edit]I propose we change the template to the following:
Simply put, all this does is move group one above the title. Looking for some feedback on this idea, -- sk8er5000 yeah? 07:46, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Proposal
[edit]I propose to expand this template into Public Transport Victoria. The only bits missing for this expansion are Regional Train services (Albury, Ballarat, Ararat, Maryborough, Bendigo, Echuca, Swan Hill, Geelong, Warrnambool, Traralgon, Bairnsdale, Seymour, Shepparton) and Regional Bus & Coaches (most don't have any pages on Wikipedia). -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 09:19, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- There is already a template for regional trains, though in the Victorian Railway Lines template. Include {Victorian Railway Lines|vline} in articles to have it expand the vline section. Purin128AL (talk) 14:11, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- As this template deals with 80% of things to do with company Public Transport Victoria (that exist on Wikipedia), I was proposing to expand it to include the remaining 20% which is mostly just V/Line train info. The Victorian Railway Lines template is just to do with train lines, I was wanting an identical template to this that covers Lines, Operator, Rolling stock, Infrastructure, Lists for V/Line. This other template would probably end up being merged with this one anyway.
- If this template is only dealing with the Melbourne area, why are you mentioning V/Line's N class, these only operate on long distance V/Line trains? If you are including the locomotive, why not it's carriages? -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 02:58, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Proposal
[edit]I propose adding a skybus section. Or should I incoperate it into the bus section like this?
Purin128AL (talk) 11:41, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Although I do like it as a separate section as per the 1st option, it is starting to make the navbox too long. Why not just do it how Template:Regional NSW public transport do their Bus & Coach section (2nd option). -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 12:03, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think they should stay seperate. It looks better. Plus there's nothing else to add to the navbox now that ferries and skybus has been added. HoHo3143 (talk) 00:26, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
