Development

[edit]

In April 2018, it was reported that Yash was to join hands with director Geetu Mohandas for his next starrer after the KGF film franchise (2018–2022). Tentatively titled Yash 19, production was reported to begin after Geetu finalised it as her next directorial.[1] In April 2023, sources claimed that Yash and Geetu signed the venture, and the production would start that June.[2] In late September, Hollywood action choreographer J. J. Perry posted a photo in Instagram with himself and Yash, hinting about a possible collaboration for the venture. Soon after, Yash reportedly spent a day in music composer Charan Raj's studio, which also hinted about a possible collaboration.[3] On 9 December, KVN Productions and Yash's production house Monster Mind Creations announced the collaboration with the former and Geetu.[4] In January 2024, music composer Jeremy Stack and cinematographer Rajeev Ravi were announced as a part of the technical crew.[5] On 8 January 2025, Geetu stated that Yash was also part of the writing team.[6]

Casting

[edit]

Reportedly, the film would feature three lead actresses, with Pooja Hegde reported to play one of the roles, which would mark as her maiden Kannada venture. Sai Pallavi was also reported to play one of the roles.[7][4][8] Soon after the announcement, Kareena Kapoor Khan was reported to play the lead actress role, in her maiden South Indian film as well as in her maiden Kannada film, dismissing the previous reports.[9] Nayanthara, Darrell D'Silva, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria are part of the cast.[10]

Filming

[edit]

Principal photography commenced on 8 August 2024 at a large-scale 20-acre set near Bengaluru, replicating the era from the 1940s to the 1970s. The production involves an extensive team of over 1,000 crew members and 450 actors, including foreign extras.[11][12]

Release

[edit]

Toxic was initially scheduled to release theatrically on 10 April 2025.[13] However, the release has been postponed due to production delays and no new date has been announced as of January 2025 but expected by the end of the year.[14] The film will be released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.[15][16]

Marketing

[edit]

The film was announced on December 8, 2023, on KVN Productions' YouTube channel.[17][18] The first poster of the film was unveiled on 7th January,[19] and a first-look teaser was released the following day, on Yash's birthday.[20][21]
