Bernard Galane
[edit]Bernard Galane Grill is an Austrian born drummer, session musician and fine artist.
Biography
[edit]Bernard was born in Tulln an der Donau, a small suburb town close to cultural mecca Vienna, Austria, and started learning piano and early all round musical training at the local music school around the age of 4. He then got inspired by his brother to pick up the drums. He attended Musikgymnasium Wien as a teenager and also earned a master's degree from Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
After leaving Vienna for Los Angeles, California in 2002, Bernard started working his way through the LA music scene and also became a professor[1] at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California.
Musical Career
[edit]As a session musician, he appeared live and on recordings with such notable musicians as Mike Stern[2] (Miles Davis), Scott Henderson[3], Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting), Tony Brock (Rod Stewart, Elton John), Luis Conte (Phil Collins), Ric Fierabracci (Chick Corea), Jamie Kime (Dwezeel Zappa), Bob Berg, Brett Garsed, T.J. Helmerich, Rafael Moreira (Pink, Christina Aquilera), Christof Moser, Chester Thompson, Harald Weinkum, JP Cervoni and Jimmy Earl[4][5][6][7][8][9]
Bernard is author[10] of a 8 Drum Set Book Encyclopedia named the "8 Essential Areas Of Modern Drumming" as well as creator of 10 Drumset Education DVDs. The Collection consists of "Rhythm Reading Concepts", "Time Signature Concepts", "Hand Technique", "Foot Technique", "Hand and Foot Combinations", "4 Limb Independence", "Rhythmic Pyramid Concepts" and "Brush Technique".
Artist
[edit]Bernard Galane is also an accomplished artist, specialized in fine oil painting, and has been featured in numerous international art publications such as Art Market Magazine[11] [12]and Artist Closeup Magazine #20[13]. In 2024, Galane was included in the prestigious Art Market Gold List Edition #8 as one of the Top Contemporary Artists of Today.[14]
Influences
[edit]Galane cites surrealist master painters Ernst Fuchs, Salvador Dali as major art influences.[15] He was motivated by fellow Austrians Joe Zawinul and Arnold Schwarzengger to move to Los Angeles.[16] American Drummer Buddy Rich, Warren Buffet and Leonardo Da Vinci were also some major influences.[17]
Equipment
[edit]Bernard founded his own drum company Galane Custom Drums and Cymbals [2] in 2005 and is using mainly high end maple custom drum kits.
