Ruins of Shijiahe
Shijiahe site is a Neolithic site in Tianmen City, Hubei Province.The site is located in the town of Shijiahe and was discovered in 1954, dating from 3000 to 2000 BC.Shijiahe site is the largest and most complete prehistoric settlement site in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, covering an area of 8 square kilometers and containing more than 40 sites.The site is one of the "100 Great Archaeological Discoveries in China in the 20th Century" selected by Archaeology magazine and is a key cultural relics protection unit in the country.
Protection of cultural relics
On November 15, 1956, it was listed as the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Hubei Province by the People's Committee of Hubei Province under the name of "Tianmen Tucheng" and "Tianmen Shijiahe Ruins".[1][2]On November 20, 1996, it was listed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units under the name of "Shijiahe Ruins".[3]
Its protection range as cultural relics is: east to the East River, south to Shihe town government, west to the West River, north to Longwang Village.[4]
