Saddam Hussein Abd-al Majid Tikriti[b] (28 April 1937 – 30 December 2006), commonly known as Saddam Hussein, was an Iraqi revolutionary and politician, who was the fifth president of Iraq from 1979 to until his overthrow in 2003. He also served as Iraq's prime minister from 1979 to 1991 and later from 1994 to 2003 and before that Saddam was vice president from 1968 to 1979. Saddam was leading member of the Ba'ath Party and later its Iraqi regional branch.

Born to an Arab Sunni Muslim family near Tikrit, Saddam did his schooling from Baghdad.
