With the Software Wiki2Touch it is possible to use the Wikipedia offline on an iPhone and the iPod touch. To install this application from Tom Haukap the device has to be prepared by a jailbreak and the two programs wikisrvd (a wiki server daemon) and bossprefs have to be installed using Cydia or Rock. This little webserver is accessed by Safari over the localhost-IP and port 8080. Therefore it is possible to display templates, tables and even images. Mathematic formulae are not rendered using LaTeX but are pregenerated and included as pictures.

Wiki2Touch uses 3 files: articles_en.bin for all articles (3.9 GByte for english Wikipedia), images_en.bin for the math formulaes (256 MByte) and images.bin for included images. The latter has a size of 2 GByte for the german Wikipedia (2009) and a picture size of 120px, in 240px it is about 4 GByte.
