IABot and special characters
[edit]Hello,
Thank you for identifying articles that should be submitted to IABot. Here's a page showing one submission, with some links in green and others in red: https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=viewjob&id=13303 The ones in red corresponding to articles that don't exist in the English Wikipedia, usually because the dash or an accented letter has been converted to something else: 2020–21 Arsenal F.C. season should be 2020–21 Arsenal F.C. season, and A Coruña should be A Coruña. I don't know how these changes happened, but please try not to submit misspelled article names to IABot because IABot won't be able to find the articles that need to be fixed. SB19
[edit]Not a mistake. Merely redirecting pages to the group's page. The artists are unnotable beyond SB19. Most of the contents are discographies, yet mostly only a rehash of the SB19 discography. 143.44.164.110 (talk) 11:40, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
- Why do you think they are unnotable outside SB19? IMO Ken is CEO of a fashion brand, released 2 albums (1 album has a wikipedia article) and has won 5 awards. We have much less notable articles here at wikipedia. Boyinaroom (talk) 12:20, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
I would be grateful if you could explain your revert at the article Talk page, as your edit summary described my addition as a "test edit". Many thanks. 205.239.40.3 (talk) 13:15, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
- I have given reason on talk page. Regards. Boyinaroom (talk) 15:11, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
God (word)
[edit]My removal of a completely unsourced argument on the page for the etymology of the word god was reverted and I’m not really sure why. I’m not sure how that entry even got approved in the first place, given the entire first paragraph arguing it’s whole Lombard theory isn’t even sourced, let alone the two other actual sources having nothing to do with the actual claim at hand.
I found some people linking to this article on other forums and decided to actually look into its sourcing and noticed just how bad it was. I think it’s, at best, a user putting their own theory on Wikipedia. Brae26 (talk) 05:19, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your Bold edit. To be honest, I am not an expert on this topic, but IMHO you should not delete it balantly just because it is not sourced. Give it a [citation needed] tag by typing {{cn}}. Do some research and if you are are doubtful about its verifiability then go ahead and remove it. If you have done some digging and are confident about it being non verifiable then I am OK with your edit. Also see WP:USI. Good luck! Boyinaroom (talk) 06:48, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
DBZ Abridged
[edit]Hey, I saw you revert my link change on Connor Calhoun. It's understandable that you would, but do consider that he didn't voice in Dragon Ball Z itself, but in TeamFourStar's DBZ Abridged. I think its more accurate to link the latter than the former. Do you see it differently?

- Ok. Sorry for that. I seemed like a promotion of that youtube channel. I have undid my edit. Thanks. Boyinaroom (talk) 07:28, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

suggestion for adding Category
[edit]I see that you are an active, knowledgeable editor and wondered if you would share your thoughts. I would like to add a Category to the list of available categories. I posted my suggestion "Voter education" on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Category_names. Is this the proper place? Gumballhead1of2 (talk) 15:05, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- You are free to make categories yourself! Read instructions for it here and for parent category (which will be used in category creation) see H:CATS. Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization is also a great resource. But first get involved in basic categorization work at Wikipedia:Task Center. If you need further help regarding categorization go to Wikipedia:Teahouse. Cheers! Boyinaroom (talk) 17:04, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
Sage Steele Edit
[edit]Yes, you made a mistake. Sage Steele is NOT hostile to transgender people OR opposed to them participating in competitive sports. She DOES oppose (like millions of us) biological men competing against girls. What part of that is so hard to understand? Why do you support Wikipedia being untruthful in this regard? Truth385 (talk) 18:13, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Your edit was reverted because of adding vague statements to Biography of living person (see WP:BLP)
- You can add above statement but I have problem with this statement- "Some have incorrectly characterized her stance as hostile toward transgender people, but that has never been proven by her critics." This is biography of a living person so we can't be vague about who is saying. Remove this statement (or give names, of course by citing sources). Also give a third party source (if possible) about her comments because Twitter is not reliable source (see WP:RSPSS). Then go ahead with your edits. Thanks and Happy editing! Boyinaroom (talk) 02:23, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- So where is the "source" for this statement: "In recent years, Steele has voiced hostility to Transgender children and advocates, including the ability of transgender youth to compete in sports." THAT is someone's opinion of her stance on transgender participation in sports. Show me the citation or it must be removed. Truth385 (talk) 03:05, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- I do not have problem with you adding "concerns regarding the participation of transgender women in competitive sports against biological females". But I have problem with "Some have incorrectly characterized her stance as hostile toward transgender people, but that has never been proven by her critics." You can add first statement. Boyinaroom (talk) 03:21, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Blocked editor
[edit]The article Agathodaemon is pblocked because of IP-hopping block-evading disruption, including copyright violation, by indefinitely blocked User:Akaora, who now persists in posting open-ended requests for other editors to help them (essentially, proxy for them) on a variety of article talk pages. They've been given clear instructions on requesting unblocking, several times. May I suggest that if you see such edits again from another IP, you don't welcome them, as it only gives them false encouragement? Of course, it's quite possible they don't see those messages anyway, because WP:THEYCANTHEARYOU! NebY (talk) 14:10, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, you just reverted my edits on this article listing artists on this group's label because they were non-constructive. I was wondering in what way they were non-constructive, and what I could change about my writing so that I could add this information in a constructive way. Konomu (talk) 05:05, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Re https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:136.25.155.228 - Not a mistake; the article refers to Keith Teare being a founder of TechCrunch. I don't know who put that there, but it's not correct. He has nothing to do with the site. I just tried to fix a mistake, and you re-instated the mistake. [edit]Hi, I'm writing to you because you undone a vandalized edit on the Zadar article here]. The unregistered user keeps insisting, creating an ongoing edit war. Could you do something? Maybe you know an administrator who can fix the situation. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with English Wikipedia (I'm mainly active on Italian Wikipedia). Swv
[edit]I wasn't the editor who added the info about the fourth member to begin with. Whoever that was did not cite that info either. I simply was trying to explain how the group went from four members to three, because obviously the fourth member did leave but the reason for her doing so is not currently known. SWV only recently mentioned her existence on Instagram by uploading her picture but did not go into any further detail. I personally think she doesn't need to be mentioned here on Wiki at all since she has never been a big part of their story but obviously the other user felt she should be mentioned.107.115.153.38 (talk) 03:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted
[edit]Hi Boyinaroom. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:14, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Regarding My Edits
[edit]Hi ! @Boyinaroom , my edits were reverted by you kindly please check that which was written by the op is already written in the citation and almost all researchers backed by edit. That's why it was written that modern researchers confirm him of being a Gaur Brahmin. I am adding my sources below :
- India's Historic Battles by Kaushik Roy
- A History of Rajasthan by Rima Hooja
- Hemu and His Times by ML Bhargav
- What Ail's the Indian Army by MM Sharma
- Political History by A L Srivastav
- The Mughal Empire by A L Srivastav
Now confusion occurs because he was called "Baqqal" which means a merchant by originally he was a Gaur Brahmin mentioned the A L Srivastav i.e. : In contemporary chronicles he is called Baqqal , but he was Bhargav subcaste of Gaur Brahmins. Complete page of this book is not available but in the same book it is also written that at that time Baqqal word is used for every merchant irrespective of caste. I am reverting you edits to the last version which was done by @/spacemanspiff as the current version is same like the version of sockpuppet @/ministerofunderworld. I have checked you also reverted other of my edits I will also put my point there by adding sources. Dinkar 108 (talk) 04:23, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- I am in office please wait till evening Boyinaroom (talk) 05:06, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sure , I am waiting till evening , but you must know about this user : @/Mahishya created another account i.e. @/Andy mureey and vandalizing the same articles which was previously vandalize with @/Mahishya , which shows sign of socket puppetry just for the vandalizing and promoting his POV , I reverted the edits of OP with explanation but as he created a second id and started the edit war so , I am not going to revert them as it's indulge me in the edit war. Dinkar 108 (talk) 07:12, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- There is an old discussion about this here and the accepted version was this. Then an editor from this discussion comes and adds "Modern researches confirm that Hemu was born to Rai Puran Das, in present day village Maccheri in Alwar district of Rajasthan" in this edit. Then comes a sockpuppet and adds "a Gaur Brahmin of Rajasthan" in this edit.
- Now regarding your sources they are discussed there and why are they not good enough. I believe that it is fair that we give space to different opinions.
- Do you have a specific proposal on how the text I have proposed above should be changed? If so, can you compose the exact sentences that you want to include in the Early life section and provide them here along with the relevant citations? That will help us make concrete progress with the article. Boyinaroom (talk) 10:12, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your support , I agree with you that we should give space to different opinions though I have another source i.e. from
- Philosophers of War The Evolution of History's Greatest Military Thinkers [2 Volumes] it mentions him Brahmin with his full name except one author most of the sources claimed him Brahmin and even that was cleared by the A L Srivastva i.e. Baqqal means merchant not Vaishya or Baniya. You can add this that " Most sources mentioned him a Brahmin and that sources which mentioned him Baqqal not Bania coz baqqal word is used for every merchant. In your current version almost add citated sources mentions him being Gaur Brahmin except Majumdar. So It can be added that except majumdar all historians confirms him of being a Gaur Brahmins. You can verfiy the sources. Dinkar 108 (talk) 10:35, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know what is the difference between baqqal and Vaishya but I will add Baqqal in place of baniya nonetheless. And regarding adding most sources mention him Brahmin Give me some time. Boyinaroom (talk) 10:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay , Thanks no problem for that , FYI Baqqal is an Arabic word which means hawkers as Hemu sell the saltpeter so he was written as the Baqqal and Vaishya is one of the varna of the Hindus and Bania is caste under this varna , there are many other castes in this Varna like Vaishya Vani another hindu caste in this varna. Baqqal , Bania , Vaishya they all three are different terms. Dinkar 108 (talk) 11:11, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Done 👍 Boyinaroom (talk) 11:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Web browsers can use tools called extensions. There is now a Chrome extension called Citation Needed which you can use to see if an online statement is supported by a Wikipedia article. This is a small experiment to see if Wikipedia can be used this way. Because it is a small experiment, it can only be used in Chrome in English.
- A new Edit Recovery feature has been added to all wikis, available as a user preference. Once you enable it, your in-progress edits will be stored in your web browser, and if you accidentally close an editing window or your browser or computer crashes, you will be prompted to recover the unpublished text. Please leave any feedback on the project talk page. This was the #8 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey.
- Initial results of Edit check experiments have been published. Edit Check is now deployed as a default feature at the wikis that tested it. Let us know if you want your wiki to be part of the next deployment of Edit check. [10][11]
- Readers using the Minerva skin on mobile will notice there has been an improvement in the line height across all typography settings. [12]

Problems
- Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [16][17]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [18][19]
- Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [20]
- A new variable
page_last_edit_age
will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. [21]
Future changes
- Volunteer developers are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. Learn more.
- Four database fields will be removed from database replicas (including Quarry). This affects only the
abuse_filter
andabuse_filter_history
tables. Some queries might need to be updated. [22]

Future changes
- This is the last warning that by the end of May 2024 the Vector 2022 skin will no longer share site and user scripts/styles with old Vector. For user-scripts that you want to keep using on Vector 2022, copy the contents of Special:MyPage/vector.js to Special:MyPage/vector-2022.js. There are more technical details available. Recent changes
- The appearance of talk pages changed for the following wikis: Azerbaijani Wikipedia, Bengali Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, Hebrew Wikipedia, Hindi Wikipedia, Indonesian Wikipedia, Korean Wikipedia, Dutch Wikipedia, Portuguese Wikipedia, Romanian Wikipedia, Thai Wikipedia, Turkish Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, Vietnamese Wikipedia. These wikis participated to a test, where 50% of users got the new design, for one year. As this test gave positive results, the new design is deployed on these wikis as the default design. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at all wikis in the coming weeks. [27]
- Seven new wikis have been created:
- You can now watch message groups/projects on Translatewiki.net. Initially, this feature will notify you of added or deleted messages in these groups. [35]
- Dark mode is now available on all wikis, on mobile web for logged-in users who opt into the advanced mode. This is the early release of the feature. Technical editors are invited to check for accessibility issues on wikis. See more detailed guidelines.
Problems
- Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using
mapstyle="osm"
. This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. This has now been fixed. [36]

Recent changes
- On Wikisource there is a special page listing pages of works without corresponding scan images. Now you can use the new magic word
__EXPECTWITHOUTSCANS__
to exclude certain pages (list of editions or translations of works) from that list. [47] - If you use the user-preference "Show preview without reloading the page", then the template-page feature "Preview page with this template (what's this?)" will now also work without reloading the page. [48]
- Kartographer maps can now specify an alternative text via the
alt=
attribute. This is identical in usage to thealt=
attribute in the image and gallery syntax. An exception for this feature is wikis like Wikivoyage where the miniature maps are interactive. [49] - The old Guided Tour for the "New Filters for Edit Review" feature has been removed. It was created in 2017 to show people with older accounts how the interface had changed, and has now been seen by most of the intended people. [50]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 May. It will be on all wikis from 16 May (calendar). [51][52]
- The Special:Search results page will now use CSS flex attributes, for better accessibility, instead of a table. If you have a gadget or script that adjusts search results, you should update your script to the new HTML structure. [53]
Future changes
- In the Vector 2022 skin, main pages will be displayed at full width (like special pages). The goal is to keep the number of characters per line large enough. This is related to the coming changes to typography in Vector 2022. Learn more. [54]
- Two columns of the
pagelinks
database table (pl_namespace

) are being dropped soon. Users must use two columns of the newlinktarget
table instead (lt_namespace
andlt_title
). In your existing SQL queries:- Replace

- The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, will now correctly delete pages which were moved to another title. [57]
- New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description. [58][59]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 May. It will be on all wikis from 23 May (calendar). [60][61]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
