IABot and special characters

Hello,

Thank you for identifying articles that should be submitted to IABot. Here's a page showing one submission, with some links in green and others in red: https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=viewjob&id=13303 The ones in red corresponding to articles that don't exist in the English Wikipedia, usually because the dash or an accented letter has been converted to something else: 2020–21 Arsenal F.C. season should be 2020–21 Arsenal F.C. season, and A Coruña should be A Coruña. I don't know how these changes happened, but please try not to submit misspelled article names to IABot because IABot won't be able to find the articles that need to be fixed. SB19

God (word)

My removal of a completely unsourced argument on the page for the etymology of the word god was reverted and I’m not really sure why. I’m not sure how that entry even got approved in the first place, given the entire first paragraph arguing it’s whole Lombard theory isn’t even sourced, let alone the two other actual sources having nothing to do with the actual claim at hand.

I found some people linking to this article on other forums and decided to actually look into its sourcing and noticed just how bad it was. I think it’s, at best, a user putting their own theory on Wikipedia. Brae26 (talk) 05:19, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your Bold edit. To be honest, I am not an expert on this topic, but IMHO you should not delete it balantly just because it is not sourced. Give it a [citation needed] tag by typing {{cn}}. Do some research and if you are are doubtful about its verifiability then go ahead and remove it. Hey, I saw you revert my link change on Connor Calhoun. It's understandable that you would, but do consider that he didn't voice in Dragon Ball Z itself, but in TeamFourStar's DBZ Abridged. I think its more accurate to link the latter than the former. Do you see it differently?

You are free to make categories yourself! Read instructions for it here and for parent category (which will be used in category creation) see H:CATS. Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization is also a great resource. But first get involved in basic categorization work at Wikipedia:Task Center. Yes, you made a mistake. Sage Steele is NOT hostile to transgender people OR opposed to them participating in competitive sports. She DOES oppose (like millions of us) biological men competing against girls. What part of that is so hard to understand? Why do you support Wikipedia being untruthful in this regard? Your edit was reverted because of adding vague statements to Biography of living person (see WP:BLP)
You can add above statement but I have problem with this statement- "Some have incorrectly characterized her stance as hostile toward transgender people, but that has never been proven by her critics." This is biography of a living person so we can't be vague about who is saying. Remove this statement (or give names, of course by citing sources). Also give a third party source (if possible) about her comments because Twitter is not reliable source (see WP:RSPSS). Then go ahead with your edits. Thanks and Happy editing! So where is the "source" for this statement: "In recent years, Steele has voiced hostility to Transgender children and advocates, including the ability of transgender youth to compete in sports." Blocked editor

The article Agathodaemon is pblocked because of IP-hopping block-evading disruption, including copyright violation, by indefinitely blocked User:Akaora, who now persists in posting open-ended requests for other editors to help them (essentially, proxy for them) on a variety of article talk pages. They've been given clear instructions on requesting unblocking, several times. May I suggest that if you see such edits again from another IP, you don't welcome them, as it only gives them false encouragement? Of course, it's quite possible they don't see those messages anyway, because WP:THEYCANTHEARYOU! NebY (talk) 14:10, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That’s not an EL. Which is what you asserted. I not know why you could have read that, and presumed to be EL. If you have a preferred ref format, kindly revise it to such. Rather than delete it on the mistaken belief that it is an EL. Or because your prefer a variant ref format.

I wasn't the editor who added the info about the fourth member to begin with. Whoever that was did not cite that info either. I simply was trying to explain how the group went from four members to three, because obviously the fourth member did leave but the reason for her doing so is not currently known. SWV only recently mentioned her existence on Instagram by uploading her picture but did not go into any further detail. On Sarbloh Granth article you added religion = Sikhism(disputed) which is completely false. The thing is that they are part of Sikh literature. The same happened with Dasam Granth here.

Hi ! @Boyinaroom , my edits were reverted by you kindly please check that which was written by the op is already written in the citation and almost all researchers backed by edit. That's why it was written that modern researchers confirm him of being a Gaur Brahmin. I am adding my sources below :

  4. What Ail's the Indian Army by MM Sharma

Now confusion occurs because he was called "Baqqal" which means a merchant by originally he was a Gaur Brahmin mentioned the A L Srivastav i.e. : In contemporary chronicles he is called Baqqal , but he was Bhargav subcaste of Gaur Brahmins. Complete page of this book is not available but in the same book it is also written that at that time Baqqal word is used for every merchant irrespective of caste. I am reverting you edits to the last version which was done by @/spacemanspiff as the current version is same like the version of sockpuppet @/ministerofunderworld. Sure , I am waiting till evening , but you must know about this user : @/Mahishya created another account i.e. @/Andy mureey and vandalizing the same articles which was previously vandalize with @/Mahishya , which shows sign of socket puppetry just for the vandalizing and promoting his POV , I reverted the edits of OP with explanation but as he created a second id and started the edit war so , I am not going to revert them as it's indulge me in the edit war. There is an old discussion about this here and the accepted version was this. Then an editor from this discussion comes and adds "Modern researches confirm that Hemu was born to Rai Puran Das, in present day village Maccheri in Alwar district of Rajasthan" in this edit. Then comes a sockpuppet and adds "a Gaur Brahmin of Rajasthan" in this edit.
Now regarding your sources they are discussed there and why are they not good enough. I believe that it is fair that we give space to different opinions.
Do you have a specific proposal on how the text I have proposed above should be changed? If so, can you compose the exact sentences that you want to include in the Early life section and provide them here along with the relevant citations? Thanks for your support , I agree with you that we should give space to different opinions though I have another source i.e. from
Philosophers of War The Evolution of History's Greatest Military Thinkers [2 Volumes] it mentions him Brahmin with his full name except one author most of the sources claimed him Brahmin and even that was cleared by the A L Srivastva i.e. Baqqal means merchant not Vaishya or Baniya. You can add this that " Most sources mentioned him a Brahmin and that sources which mentioned him Baqqal not Bania coz baqqal word is used for every merchant. In your current version almost add citated sources mentions him being Gaur Brahmin except Majumdar. So It can be added that except majumdar all historians confirms him of being a Gaur Brahmins. Okay , Thanks no problem for that , FYI Baqqal is an Arabic word which means hawkers as Hemu sell the saltpeter so he was written as the Baqqal and Vaishya is one of the varna of the Hindus and Bania is caste under this varna , there are many other castes in this Varna like Vaishya Vani another hindu caste in this varna. I want to inform you that @Dinkar 108 is consistenly trying to pull me into an edit war from his side. I want you to examine his recent changes in [Bahun], [Sanadhya Brahmin] , [Brahmjit Gaur] and [Anavil]. He removed information and authentic sources without adequately explaining why in a biased manner with an intention of vandalising the articles. Please take it into your cognizance. Recent changes

  • Web browsers can use tools called extensions. There is now a Chrome extension called Citation Needed which you can use to see if an online statement is supported by a Wikipedia article. This is a small experiment to see if Wikipedia can be used this way. Because it is a small experiment, it can only be used in Chrome in English.
  • A new Edit Recovery feature has been added to all wikis, available as a user preference. Once you enable it, your in-progress edits will be stored in your web browser, and if you accidentally close an editing window or your browser or computer crashes, you will be prompted to recover the unpublished text. Please leave any feedback on the project talk page. This was the #8 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey.
  • Initial results of Edit check experiments have been published. Edit Check is now deployed as a default feature at the wikis that tested it. Let us know if you want your wiki to be part of the next deployment of Edit check. [10][11]
  • Readers using the Minerva skin on mobile will notice there has been an improvement in the line height across all typography settings. [12]

Problems

  • Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [16][17]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [18][19]
  • Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [20]
  • A new variable page_last_edit_age will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. [21]

Future changes

  • Volunteer developers are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. Learn more.
  • Four database fields will be removed from database replicas (including Quarry). This affects only the abuse_filter and abuse_filter_history tables. Some queries might need to be updated. [22]

  • This is the last warning that by the end of May 2024 the Vector 2022 skin will no longer share site and user scripts/styles with old Vector. For user-scripts that you want to keep using on Vector 2022, copy the contents of Special:MyPage/vector.js to Special:MyPage/vector-2022.js. There are more technical details available. Interface administrators who foresee this leading to lots of technical support questions may wish to send a mass message to your community, as was done on French Wikipedia. [26]

  • Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using mapstyle="osm". This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. This has now been fixed. [36]

  • The appearance of talk pages changed for all wikis, except for Commons, Wikidata and most Wikipedias (a few have already received this design change). You can read the detail of the changes on Diff. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at remaining wikis in the coming weeks. [39][40]
  • Interface admins now have greater control over the styling of article components on mobile with the introduction of the SiteAdminHelper. More information on how styles can be disabled can be found at the extension's page. [41]
  • Wikimedia Enterprise has added article body sections in JSON format and a curated short description field to the existing parsed Infobox. This expansion to the API is also available via Wikimedia Cloud Services. [42]

Recent changes

  • On Wikisource there is a special page listing pages of works without corresponding scan images. Now you can use the new magic word __EXPECTWITHOUTSCANS__ to exclude certain pages (list of editions or translations of works) from that list. [47]
  • If you use the user-preference "Show preview without reloading the page", then the template-page feature "Preview page with this template (what's this?)" will now also work without reloading the page. [48]
  • Kartographer maps can now specify an alternative text via the alt= attribute. This is identical in usage to the alt= attribute in the image and gallery syntax. An exception for this feature is wikis like Wikivoyage where the miniature maps are interactive. [49]
  • The old Guided Tour for the "New Filters for Edit Review" feature has been removed. It was created in 2017 to show people with older accounts how the interface had changed, and has now been seen by most of the intended people. [50]

  • The Special:Search results page will now use CSS flex attributes, for better accessibility, instead of a table. If you have a gadget or script that adjusts search results, you should update your script to the new HTML structure. [53]

Future changes

  • In the Vector 2022 skin, main pages will be displayed at full width (like special pages). The goal is to keep the number of characters per line large enough. This is related to the coming changes to typography in Vector 2022. Learn more. [54]
  • Two columns of the pagelinks database table (pl_namespace and pl_title) are being dropped soon. Users must use two columns of the new linktarget table instead (lt_namespace and lt_title). In your existing SQL queries:
    1. Replace JOIN pagelinks with JOIN linktarget and pl_ with lt_ in the ON statement
    2. Below that add JOIN pagelinks ON lt_id = pl_target_id

  • The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, will now correctly delete pages which were moved to another title. [57]
  • New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description.   • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 May. It will be on all wikis from 23 May (calendar). [60][61]
  • The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
