Request to protect articles

Hi, can you please protect these articles: NCAA Season 93 basketball tournaments and UAAP Season 80 basketball tournaments due to persistent disruptive editing, thank you. Rick (talk) 11:07, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Rickt11. I blocked the IP for 31 hours and protected the two pages. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 13:11, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Template

Greetings! Template:lang-so does not appear to be functioning properly. There's a no italics code on it that is botching up the whole template (ex. here). Could you please set the italics code to yes? That should perhaps fix it. Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 05:04, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Soupforone Based on Lang-aa I just removed the line. Seems to work. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:17, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

So you see even Charles was looking for a reliable source :-) Thank you for your contributions to the 'pedia. ~ MarnetteD|Talk 00:30, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Your Lock on BALANS was removed/edited

BALANS

Your locking the article has been circumvented by the Romanian User whom is the culprit here. He has also removed the deletion tag on this.

Please revert back to my edit and re-insert the tag.

Cartoon network freak is the abuser and should be blocked.

Just to clarify everything, you are the "abuser" who keeps reverting my GA version of the article, checked in concordance with Wikipedia's guidelines, to your alleged "better" version which literally only consists of a few poorly-written paragraphs and nearly no refs. Just think for yourself a bit. You're wrong, so please accept it. The only one who should be blocked is you, both for reverting the GA version to your poppycock version, AND for being rude on my talk page and edit summaries. Go away. Cartoon network freak (talk) 11:55, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Musicstarboy007. Please provide links to where the article was copied from. Oh and you added a WP:PROD which can be removed by anybody. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:59, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

My point is that the article reverted to by Cartoon Freak above is inaccurate and supporting an infringing release. After you locked the page on my edit (the correct edit noting only the official SONY MUSIC release), cartoon freak was still able to revert the article back to the bad one even with your lock.

Please re-insert a removal/deletion tag and revert to my edit with the lock. These guys have no intention of discussion and just want to war, without any knowledge of the situation or artist.

They have even removed my comments from the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musicstarboy007 (talkcontribs) 12:03, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

I tried to talk to you a million times, but you always reverted the article to your version. The article was not "copied" from anywhere. It was promoted to GA; you can also check the history to see how I searched for sources and expanded it bit by bit by myself. Go read Wikipedia's guidelines before throwing your shit on pages like those. Sorry for my language, but are really disrespectful towards hard work done by users to get an article to GA. Cartoon network freak (talk) 12:10, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I hope were not destroying your talk page, though, CambridgeBayWeather ;) Cartoon network freak (talk) 12:12, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Musicstarboy007 No I will not add a deletion tag. Once you are unblocked go to Talk:Balans (song) and point out which parts you believe are wrong and provide sources to prove it. And what on earth does the nationality of any user have to do with it? Cartoon network freak. You should not remove their comments on the Talk:Balans (song) page. They may be poppycock but they can say it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:27, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Got it sir! Hope something good comes out of this ;) Best, Cartoon network freak (talk) 20:32, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Editor

Would you have a moment to look at the edits of this editor? They appear to be completely unsourced, and finding the source to support them is not so easy. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:14, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Magnolia677 I looked and reverted some of them as being un-sourced. They know how to source but I'm not sure why they aren't. I realised that just reverting them is probably not the best way to do it. I have some other stuff I wanted to do so I will look at the again later and see if I can find the sources. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:05, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Good afternoon! Please don't undo the wiki deletion proposal. All the links were fixed and nothing links here.

You can check it if you want.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EsTemporal (talkcontribs) 20:56, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

EsTemporal. See my reply on your talk page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:59, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather Isn't a neccesary redirect. The businessman is known as Joshua Carl Gruss not Josh Gruss, there aren't broken links or references. For this reason I proposed for deletion.

Thanks. --EsTemporal (talk) 21:08, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

{u|EsTemporal}} did you see the reply at Talk:Josh Gruss?
EsTemporal properly this time. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:13, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Question About Cambridge Bay (actually Victoria Island)

Do you know the name of the lake 150 km. NW (bearing 303 degrees) of Cambridge Bay? 69*50' N 108*20 W

It is a big lake and probably has a name, though it is not on the maps.

This is of special interest to me. 04:05, 6 January 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arrecife (talkcontribs)

Arrecife. I take it you mean this one. If so it is called Malikattivik (Inuinnaqtun) but I don't know if there is an English name. I found it here and if you put your mouse over the orange dot it should speak the name. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 04:44, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
    • Wow, thanks for the info, I am going to have a lot of fun with that spoken map! Have you thought of writing an article about Lake Malikattivik and its islands? If you don't, I will, and you are obviously better suited to the task! Arrecife (talk) 19:37, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
[[u|Arrecife}} you should just go ahead and write the article. Nobody here seems to know anything about it. The spoken map is good but would be better if they had the English names as well. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:28, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Dinhio13. Mobody WP:OWNS a page and you can't tell others not to edit it. There are several errors on the category listings such as Category:Super Lig players, Category:FK Silute players, Category:CS Gaz Metan Media? players and Category:MFK Zemplin Michalovce players. See how they are all red, which means those categories don't exist. What you need to do is go to Talk:Akaki Khubutia and explain what you think is the problem there. Don't past in your preferred version but explain what you see is wrong and provide sources. Saying you are his brother isn't going to be enough and is a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Hi CambridgeBayWeather, you recently full protected these articles and termed the disruption as a content dispute. The IP hopper who is editing those articles is a LTA and there are more details available here User:Mfb/Taiwanese articles. In both cases the IP hopper is known to push a huge number of POV edits. ROC is referred to as ROC and not ROC(Taiwan) per Wikipedia and this can be seen on articles like Taiwan, Tsai_Ing-wen, Republic of China Armed Forces and many others. Similarly, the IP hopper is known to add unsourced/poorly sourced capabilities for Taiwanese weapons. We have tried to engage the IP editor in a discussion in the past on these 2 pages Wan Chien and Hsiung Feng III when they claimed that Taiwan had a nuclear weapon with a blast diameter of 300km. But this just ends up being a massive time-sink. Other pages where the IP hopper has made similar edits are Taiwan and weapons of mass destruction, Human spaceflight AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo. If you look closely at their edits on 2 they again claim nuclear capability which is not even mentioned in the source. The source itself claims that it was mentioned in another source which is borders WP:TABLOID. I have also pinged @Mfb and MerlinVtwelve: who dealt with the IP hopper in the past. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 22:15, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Adamgerber80 OK I have reduced them to semi. Curious as to why the ROC is called the ROC in those articles when the ROC article is called Taiwan. Wouldn't it be less confusing to the reader to mention the name? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:21, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather I believe at some moment in time there was a discussion on the Taiwan talk page and a convention of sorts was established. The logic was that the article name remains Taiwan since it is the less confusing name but ROC is still used in infoboxes/elsewhere since it is the official name. I don't particularly feel strongly about either names are how they are represented. I am just trying to follow the convention to ensure it being standard across all articles. Happy to change this if there is a broad consensus across the board. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 22:30, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
OK. Thanks. Not really bothered either. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:41, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

January 16

Hi, you left a note on my page about edit warring, but you did not leave a message on the page of the person I was in the altercation with. Subuey (talk) 05:04, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Subuey. You gave me 22 minutes to respond and you need to give people more time. By the time you left thee message I'd gone for a nap. Of course I didn't leave MjolnirPants a notice as he already knows about edit warring whereas it wasn't clear if you did. Also you were removing comments on a talk page which, unless they were personal attacks, insults or certain other issues, should never be done. Of course, you can remove almost anything from your talk page. See Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines especially Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#Editing others' comments and Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#User talk pages. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 09:04, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your response, but if you had looked closely, it was actually a template I had removed. The comment on the template I found to be in bad taste, so I removed it. Subuey (talk) 09:18, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

SwisterTwister prod deletion

Hi, CambridgeBayWeather. I was looking for the company Tado° and noticed the page was deleted by you this year, per a prod nomination by User:SwisterTwister. As this user is now blocked indefinitely as a vote stacking sock puppet, I decided to read the article, and I honestly don't think that it qualified for a prod deletion. I think it could easily be restored and with the deletion of a few lines would be just fine. Would you object if I did so ? —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 10:21, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

TheDJ. It was just a PROD so I restored it. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 10:30, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Coachella Valley Church

Hi, you limited editing to admins for a week on Coachella Valley Church, a time-sensitive article (recent news articles made this noteworthy) so that it is now stuck with what the Church's promoters have put up - unless an admin steps in and cleans it up. Can an admin like yourself come look into it right away or can it be left at my last edit because I believe my edits make the article less controversial (the next to last edit since the last edit was just adding the dispute notice). NaturaNaturans (talk)

NaturaNaturans. It will need discussing at the talk page. You can of course seek some sort of dispute resolution. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:08, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Can you become part of the discussion? NaturaNaturans (talk) 20:45, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
NaturaNaturans You should try Wikipedia:Dispute resolution requests as you will find people better suited to that than me. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:20, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
So the person I was disputing with has been blocked [3]. But the article is stuck on his/her last major edit. What now? NaturaNaturans (talk) 02:59, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
NaturaNaturans. I unprotected the page again. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:49, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

User:Gipafv/sandbox

Hi CambridgeBayWeather. Back in October 2015, you deleted User:Gipafv/sandbox per Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Gipafv/sandbox. I can't see that version, but this latest version appears to be pretty strange. The first sentence claims that the subject is a member of The Beatles among man other things. Most of the wikilinks are easter eggs to pages other than specified and just scanning a few of the sources shows no connection between subject matter and source. Not sure if this is WP:G2, WP:G3, WP:G11 or WP:U5; it looks like a legitimate draft for sure, but some checking shows that it might not be. Any suggestions on what if anything should be done here? Also, just want to note is that the name of the primary subject seems to have changed over time and there might also be some BLP issues in there as well in the "Personal life" section where none of the sources cited actually seem to support what is written and appear to be primary to tabloid sheets and other stuff of questionable reliability. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:55, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Marchjuly. Thanks for catching that. I've deleted it again and left them a warning. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:11, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

about 'violating copyright'

Yesterday, you have blocked me immediately because of 'violating copyright'

I can not block you but you did it, so i think you are a admin or wikipedia page administer, right? so i have a question about wikipedia edit policy.

When i edited the page, i have verified their website and add conference (news articles, their homepage ; About the company, related links).

But why is it 'violating copyright'?

Dkflfkd. You copied that material directly from another website. They own the copyright and you can't do that. It has to be in your own words. See Wikipedia:Copyrights for more information. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:24, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather. As you mentioned above 'another website' mean is 'ArirangTV&Radio' website?

If then, only Arirang TV or Radio's staff can modify with using the contents in website?

Dkflfkd. No the staff can't copy from that website either. Everything on Wikipedia must be in the writers own words. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:17, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of rivers of Nunavut, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Clyde River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

STAG International

Hi, I recently got a notification stating my article was reviewed by you and deleted under G8 policy. Previous reviewers pointed out other issues which I corrected before re-submitting, G8 is pretty strange and I don't find that right, kindly suggest me where it went wrong so I can improve that part. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Td.1792.td (talkcontribs) 09:03, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Td.1792.td. As user Tanmoydas.1792 you created Draft:Stag International (August 2017) which still exists. Still as Tanmoydas.1792 you created Draft:STAG International (7 November 2017) which was deleted 2 January 2018 and recreated by you (Tanmoydas.1792) on 9 January 2018 as User:STAG International and then somehow got to Draft:STAG International then to Draft talk:STAG International then to Talk:STAG International then, finally, to User:STAG International. All on 15 January 2018. I found it at the user page of a user that doesn't exist so I deleted the page as a Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#U2. Nonexistent user. I then deleted the redirects as Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#G8. Pages dependent on a non-existent or deleted page. I didn't delete anything based on the content So you should stick with one account. You should work on one draft, don't move it around and wait for the draft to be moved. Armenian genocide debate

I want to create an article at this redirect. It currently points to Armenian genocide denial. I saw that you created the redirect and I wanted to ask if you would have any objections to my creating an article at the redirect. The current article has significant problems, but cleaning this up would be a big project and my interest is more focused on the debate in scholarly sources so that is what I want to work on, although it would be more of a long-term project. The content of this article does not really have anything to do with the debate - it is more about accusations that have been made against certain scholars by other scholars, denial trials, and criticsm of the Turkish government's position.Seraphim System (talk) 10:53, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Seraphim System Are you sure it's me you want? Armenian genocide denial redirects to Armenian Genocide denial but I had nothing to do with either of them. Armenian Genocide denial seems have moved around but never by me. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:32, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have been more clear, I want to create the page at Armenian genocide debate - it was created as a redirect from a move here [4] but I don't know any of the history of the move Seraphim System (talk) 11:35, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Seraphim System Ah. I was so confused by the editor in the section above this I didn't follow all the redirects. If you want go for it. I just moved it based on a talk page request. I guess it will fall under the current arb regs. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:43, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey mate why did you locked the page on wrong version. I am one of the main editors for european basketball here (you can see my contributions), every day i'm removing vandalism, updating basketball articles and now you locked on version of an IP vandal? I requested page protection (for confirmed users), and wanted to stop this edit war and now you reverted to a version of anonymous vandal? Why would you do that?--Bozalegenda (talk) 17:22, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Bozalegenda Because I can't tell what is what. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:26, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
It should be on version from 5 January, 2018, that version was there for years. From 29 January one person started with vandalism on that page.--Bozalegenda (talk) 17:30, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Bozalegenda is known for pressing his personal opinion into basketball articles, he is far from being a main editor in that area, in fact he is known to many real main editors as a vandal, there are often official sources which are in contrast to his edits. It is a clear lie, that his version was there for years as it can be seen in the article history.--2003:C8:7F21:59A7:45B9:BDEC:5E10:AEB8 (talk) 18:32, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

this version is official FIBA ARCHIVE 9 so it was well locked to prevent some Serbs from disrespecting the other Slav peoples Because what has come from Yugoslavia will never be only from Serbia congratulations CambridgeBayWeather See the official version FIBA ARCHIVE 10 it is perceived that some Serbs in FIBA Basketball World Cup

took titles from Yugoslavia and gave to Serbia, Yugoslavia has 5 world titles and not 3 as there is currently shown due to issues of some serials User:74Account

@74Account: that is just a html code table, that means nothing. Read article about FR Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) and everything will be clear. And learn to use wikipedia talk page.--Bozalegenda (talk) 17:59, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Here you can see, that in case Bozalegenda is in conflict with an official source he just call that official source "just a html code table". Yeah if you never recognize a source that doesn't fit to your opinion, thats really wikipedia kind of work!--2003:C8:7F21:59A7:45B9:BDEC:5E10:AEB8 (talk) 18:37, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

@74Account: Why are writing from anonymous IP address. You are making yourself ridiculous.--Bozalegenda (talk) 18:59, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Yugoslavia and Serbia should be seperated, similar story was once with Soviet Union and Russia. All respect to Bozalegenda for his contributions, but he is making Wikipedia a place what it can't be. Using official sources like FIBA (or olympic.org) is vital. Look what Serbia men's national basketball team looks like - total nonsense. --Pelmeen10 (talk) 21:01, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

To be honest, I can hardly have any respect for Bozalegenda's contributions. It was explained to him numerous times, over and over again, he sticked to pushing his Serbian view into the articles against the official sources.--2003:C8:7F21:595B:45B9:BDEC:5E10:AEB8 (talk) 21:58, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
74Account, Pelmeen10, Bozalegenda. I'm pleased to see that you are all trying to discuss this without resorting to insults. However, this discussion should really be at Talk:EuroBasket where everybody can see it. Also you should look at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and Wikipedia:Dispute resolution requests and see about getting some assistance from there. 74Account please try and stay logged in as some editors will view your changing IPs badly. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:02, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

My friend will you revert back to version before vandalism (January 5, 2018) or not? It's disrespectful to revert my changes after all i've done to this wikipedia. Every day i'm removing vandalism, doing almost all transfers, news, updates at european and world basketball. For so many years im keeping basketball articles here reliable, and now you are reverting my changes to some vandal user who was blocked, and then made one more account just to vandalize wikipedia. And he is making vandalism on that page from numerous ip address. If you dont want to revert back to version that has been there for years, please tell me and I will left english wikipedia forever.--Bozalegenda (talk) 22:23, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Bozalegenda. Don't remove other peoples comments from my talk page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:35, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Mate when you want to protect the page, you must revert it to the version before vandalism. You locked a wrong version. EuroBasket must be reverted back to 5 January 2018. And I dont get it why you dont block this sockpuppet?--Bozalegenda (talk) 23:37, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Does the version of Jan 5 correspond to this FIBA-source: [12]? That is the question!--2003:C8:7F21:595B:45B9:BDEC:5E10:AEB8 (talk) 23:41, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Man realize that source is a just a html code and its edited by robot. Read Serbia and Montenegro and SFR Yugoslavia articles and you will understand everything. --Bozalegenda (talk) 23:49, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Bozalegenda. Make a report at WP:SPI. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:43, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Man im still waiting for an answer? Why you dont want to revert to valid version? This version is full of nonsense. At the medal table you have one version, and everything else is another version. That article now looks ridiculous.--Bozalegenda (talk) 00:15, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Well i know which is correct, and im telling to you. Its a version from January 5, 2018. Is it possible that you dont believe to me? I am one of the main basketball editor here for many years. Is it possible that you believe to person who came here yesterday, and who is a sockpuppet???? Just look at the EuroBasket article sections - Medal table and all other sections and you will see that this version is full of nonsense.--Bozalegenda (talk) 00:30, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Stop offending an administrator. There is no such thing as a "main basketbal editors". No one owns any wikipedia article and no one has more right to decide about content than anyone else. On top of that, your vision is not supported by reliable sources. Your continuously mixing up political entities with sports country. We list sports results as they were awarded by those sports' governing bodies. For that exact reason we do not credit the United Kingdom with having won a World Cup in football. Tvx1 01:58, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
@Tvx1: Yes there are a "main basketbal editors" here. And I'm that guy, whether you like it or not. All my words here are supported by reliable sources. Just look at the articles about SFR Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia and you will realize everything. All that is supported by hundreds of sources all around web. SFR Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia were DIFFERENT COUNTRIES with DIFFERENT FLAGS, DIFFERENT NAMES, everything was different. Number of inhabitants, number of republics. All republics from SFR Yugoslavia have their own national teams from 1992 so they dont have anything wih medals from FR Yugoslavia. --Bozalegenda (talk) 17:46, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
You know I can use capitals as well: WE DON'T CARE ABOUT POLITICAL STATUS!!. When will you finally accept that? Your words are actually directly contradicted by reliable sources, since as demonstrated by Pelmeen10 the sports's governing body only credits the contested results to Yugoslavia. You'd better take an example to Pelmeen10. That user, strumming from Estonia (I assume) could have come here on some misguided nationalism as well and started making a ruckus that all sports results achieved by Estonians under the Soviet Union's flag should actually be listed on the pages of the Estonian teams pages. Yet they actually respect the sports' governing bodies crediting and chose to have results list on the articles of teams they were actually awarded to.Tvx1 23:15, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Vosk

Hi there, I'm new here and I noticed that you replaced the Vosk disambiguation page with a redirect. I've done a number of Google searches, and there doesn't seem to be a clear primary meaning here, that is why I created a disambiguation page. Would you please be able to let me know if I've done something wrong and how it works? Thanks! DrVogel (talk) 00:58, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Need protection against disruptive editing.

Greetings. In the article Siege of Budapest an IP user is trying his worst to remove sourced content, allegedly in an attempt to promote his POV there. The page needs to be protected for while. DefendingPages (talk) 22:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

...and the disruptive editing resumes as soon as the semiprotection expires.

You recently semiprotected Comparison of file synchronization software, OpenCandy, and FreeFileSync. As soon as the semiprotection expired, the IP-hopping developer of FreeFileSync (See Talk:FreeFileSync for details) resumed the disruptive editing. --Guy Macon (talk) 11:13, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Bewildered by no protection

for List of United States attacks on the Syrian government during the Syrian Civil War. If i am right, the article does not have a usual semi-protection status that virtually all the Syria War–related articles have. As a result an editor operating from an unconfirmed account continues to be engaged in repeated reverts — against all the other editors involved, and that includes User:Editor abcdef: See his posting on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:UnteenthSense′s unethical behavior, and EW.Axxxion (talk) 20:32, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Axxxion Fix ping. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:28, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather: thanks for your reply. That is exactly what i meant: there is now a unanimous consensus about this article among all the editors with confirmed edit record, but there has to be a semi-ptotection status, I′d think.Axxxion (talk) 16:38, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
Axxxion. Semi would only affect the IPs and there is not enough to require it.

CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:39, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Ok. Thanks. Am bad at all these protection statuses; but I think there is a status that only allows edits from accounts that have an established track record.Axxxion (talk) 23:22, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Faith Goldy

Hi, CambridgeBayWeather. Is there a reason you protected the non-consensus, non-stable version of Faith Goldy? Newimpartial (talk) 21:00, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Newimpartial. First version I seen. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:12, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Newimpartial. I don't see any consensus on Talk:Faith Goldy. Was it arrived at somewhere else? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:16, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
No, but there was a stable, pre-EW version, namely 14 Newimpartial (talk) 21:21, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Newimpartial. I see two references there for her being "far-right". One is to RationalWiki, a user generated site and not a valid source (and does not mention far but says alt). The second, Winnipeg Free Press, does not say she is far-right. It says "...Faith Goldy, one of this country’s most notorious right-wing commentators." While you and I may think she is far or alt right without a valid source it can't go into a BLP. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:45, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
There are several additional sources for "far right", including one I added in my most recent edit, and also Canadaland which is currently source 33 in the version you protected. But that wasn't my point, which is simply that the protected version is not the stable one, and the EW editor has declined to discuss their proposed changes on Talk (ignoring prior consensus). Newimpartial (talk) 21:50, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather, you correctly state that the Winnipeg Free Press doesn't call Goldy "far right" but your current edit to that page lists her as "far right" and cites the WFP piece as a source for that. Was that just a mistake on your part? Also inlcudes muftah.org, which appears to be a blog site posting an opinion piece from 1 individual which I don't believe meets BLP requirements for high quality sources (it's questionable at the very least). Is there a reason my last edit isn't the one being used for now? There doesn't seem to be any debate about that version meeting BLP since it doesn't call her "far right". --TheTruthiness (talk) 00:29, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Your last edit is not being used because it did not reflect the stable state of the article and you have not sought consensus for change on the relevant tak page. Also, muftah.org has an editorial board and exercises editorial oversight; it is not a "blog site". The piece cited is also not an opinion piece. You are currently essentially the only one objecting to "far right" which is the term most sources use (including Canadaland, to which you have not objected). So maybe you could go edit war somewhere else? Newimpartial (talk) 00:45, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
I've just managed to use up all 20 GB of high speed Internet ate work and am down to less than dial-up speeds. I did see this that says "Faith Julia Goldy is an emerging Canadian alt-right writer...". Will check more in several hours when I get home. The WFP reference should have been at the end of the sentence. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 01:04, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
How does Faith Goldy look now? I think it is safe to say that she is right-wing in Wikipeida's voice but not that she is far or alt-right. However, we can say she has been called that and she denies it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:12, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

When I made a report of a user breaking the 3RR as flagrantly as it is possible to do so, you took no action at all against them. No block, no warning, not even a suggestion that they should not break the 3RR. Instead, you protected the article so that I could not edit it. Why did you do that? Why are you endorsing that user's violation of the 3RR? 69.176.70.106 (talk) 19:29, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Note also that the user whose behaviour you have endorsed has clearly been encourage by that and is leaving trolling messages, while maintaining their rate of 80% of their edits being reverts. language reference desk

Why did you semi-protect it? I don't see any recent vandalism in the page history. I myself made a tongue-in-cheek post about describing gender identities using fancy math notation, but it was (partly) intended to convey just how complicated the topic can be if you really wanted to handle every possibility. If that post was an issue, leaving me a talk message would have been helpful. I think the protection was unwarranted so I hope you will undo it. Thanks. 173.228.123.121 (talk) 04:09, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Are you going to stop making edits that resemble trolling? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 04:13, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
I haven't made any intentional such edits. If I made any (other than the one I already cited, which I can see might have an issue) that come across that way to you, I'd appreciate a diff--thanks. 173.228.123.121 (talk) 04:18, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
OK. I unprotected it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 04:48, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
If you check the page history yourself, you'll see that 173. is lying about there being no recent vandalism. The poster is a banned user. Talk to the page protector for more info. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots05:00, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Bugs: I'm not a banned user. FPAS reverted an edit by another IP on the grounds that the other IP was banned, but that was not a vandalistic edit and it's wasn't grounds for semiprotecting the page unless this place has gotten much more protection-happy lately (maybe it has). Blocking the other IP is fine, reverting their edit is a judgement call, protecting the page because of either edit was overkill imho. Also, CBW was the page protector, per the revision log-- that's why I posted here. CBW: anyway, thanks for the unprotection, which is appreciated. 173.228.123.121 (talk) 05:20, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
(EC) You want CambridgeBayWeather to talk to themselves? They are the one who protected the page, as well as unprotected it. The most recent problem edits seem to have been here [16]. Those edits and more were removed her by an admin aware of the problem editor who did not protect the page [17] The page was protected here [18] by CBW about 10 hours later. We do not generally protect the page for every single edit from problematic editors. We only do so when they decide to go on a spree of re-adding their content which I'm sure will happen at some stage. Nil Einne (talk) 05:25, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Given the IP made this edit I think unprotecting it was the right thing to do. At least that's what the voices in my head said when I asked them. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:34, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
The OP's statement that there had been no recent vandalism is untrue. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots05:42, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
So they may have made an error. No need to keep pushing this. What are you looking to have done? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:47, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
At this point, nothing. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots10:50, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

I did not breach 3RR, and my edits were within the rules. KinkdomMan and another user are insisting on adding this edit and I have put in an edit request for it to be reverted. The source currently there is a primary source and as the claim it supports is controversial it needs a secondary one - and there isn't any reliable source supporting it. I maintain that the claim is factually inaccurate and I have not yet been proven to be incorrect. Sorry if this seems brash, but accuracy on WP is essential isn't it? 101.189.160.30 (talk) 22:56, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

The Challenge: Vendettas

Hi CambridgeBayWeather. On 19 Feb you placed The Challenge: Vendettas under pending changes protection, but it hasn't worked well. A backlog of 24 edits spanning 36 hours just built up. (I accepted all on the basis that there wasn't obvious vandalism). PC-reviewers like me seem to be shying away from the work of assessing every edit in detail. It seems to me that while the show is on the article has too high a frequency of edits to be suitable for PC, and assessing them requires knowledge of the show and understanding of the complex tables. Unless there is a real continuing problem I'd suggest unprotection at this point and let the fans get on with it: Noyster (talk), 13:13, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Noyster. I misread the request at first. I have removed the protection. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 18:03, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – March 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2018).

Administrator changes

added Lourdes
removed AngelOfSadnessBhadaniChris 73CorenFridayMidomMike V
† Lourdes has requested that her admin rights be temporarily removed, pending her return from travel.

Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

@CambridgeBayWeather: Thanks

User 121.214.36.82 pretending to be a moderator and using proxy address

Please do something about this. User talk:121.214.36.82 had been reverting my edits and have ignored the rules. He also pretended to be a moderator. I really hope you unlock the wiki page of "Violence against women in the Philippines". I've already left a message on a talk page. He is not moderator and uses a proxy address to bypass editing, he also does not hold any rank in wikipedia but has giving me fake warning messages 2 times by intimidating to be a moderator. He send warnings so that he can scare people into not challenging his authority. The link is here ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:77.100.234.159&diff=828544856&oldid=828544012 he takes advantage of the fact that other moderators have given me warning a long time ago ( half year ) , my last edit had been since half year ago but this user uses a proxy address.

He is a pro-Indian editor with a agenda, making positive edits on Indians/ South Asians but negative edits on Chinese.

On the Dravido-Korean languages wiki page, I removed a text that says this " Recent genetic studies, however, have revealed an early South Asian genetic input in the development of the Korean people and, to an even greater degree, in that of the Japanese, which could conceivably add weight to such a theory. " HOWEVER it wasn't references nor is there a genetic study/link supporting this claim so I removed it and later he claimed I'm a disgusting person racist against Indian, or that I have hatred against Indians just because I stated there is no proof. He than deliberately edited it back with a random genetic study that has no mention on Koreans and South Asians but was instead about Okinawans and Taiwanese aborigines, it was later removed by User Kanguole https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dravido-Korean_languages&action=history - (77.100.234.159 (talk) 09:30, 3 March 2018 (UTC))

@77.100.234.159: Firstly, I have no agenda. Have a look at my edit history. Secondly, how is this negative? I have not made any negative edits on Chinese-related articles? Don't you dare tell me that I'm making such edits. Read what you're writing and then have a look at the edits that you have made. You must be delusional and you're the one here with an agenda. Finally, yes that source was not exactly appropriate. It did however make mention of a gene that is believed to have come from South Asia and is now present in the Okinawan people (an ethnic group in Japan). I accept that fact that that source did not apply to all of that information and I regret using that source to confirm only part of that information. IP user, let's refrain from having anymore arguments especially on another user's talk page and move on. How does that sound? (121.220.54.135 (talk) 23:40, 3 March 2018 (UTC))
I'm not unprotecting it at this point. It needs discussing on the talk page. Anybody can leave warnings and doesn't mean they are pretending to be an admin. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 02:00, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather, do you even know that you protected page by listening to a sockpuppet proxy user. He is using multiple proxy accounts, he got blocked/banned so many times and now coming back doing the same thing. He replied you with his another sockpuppet proxy account.
Sockpuppet account no.1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/121.214.36.82 (<------ the one you protected the page )
Sockpuppet account no.2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/121.220.54.135 ( <---------- the one you replied with )
I hope you will do something about this CambridgeBayWeather. He is someone who were previously blocked, now imitating to be a moderator, changing proxy addresses. He also send me a useless reply on the talk page with no mention of the topic's discussion. (77.100.234.159 (talk) 21:02, 3 March 2018 (UTC))
Changing IP addresses is not an indication of sockpuppetry and sometimes IPs change with logging off. If he is a blocked/banned user then what is his user name? And neither IP has been blocked, nor are they pretending to be a moderator. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:12, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
There are many user that are banned related with Indian topic. Problem is I can't be 100% sure since there are so many sockpuppets accounts, if I have to name you what his user name is I'll have to mention all 12 of the accounts as they all be one or more than two people similar to him.
All I can tell you is he has many IP address changes, this gives him personally the advantage to masquerade himself, any normal wikipedia user doesn't need to do this for someone who had used wikipedia for 4 years, anyone who changes to proxy address makes it hard for people to trace him.
His other IP address (proxy ) accounts
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/121.219.136.85
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/121.214.58.100
Also, I already set a talk page on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Violence_against_women_in_the_Philippines, his reply is simply asking for the page to be protected and does not talk about the problem of the wikipedia. Like I said in every country, ethnic group, caste, religion group in the world women have suffered all types of sexual violence so I really don't understand why there is any for this page. Not to mention the sources just comes from a article or book. (77.100.234.159 (talk) 17:56, 4 March 2018 (UTC))

Edit war and tag team threats at Talk:Kashmir conflict

An IP, this time from Mumbai, India, left a message in Roman Hindi on Talk:Kashmir conflict#Warning

I have managed a rough translation of this message without the emoticons Crazy pakis there is only a little while left then we will get together to revert you and this time we will definitely join kautilya (My note: I presume they mean Kautilya3) to fight you on talk, then your (insert obscenity) version will be gone, whether it be a day later or whether it be a week later or whether it be a month later, we will all in one way or another come here and you will lose he he he The way we find good we will do he he he The english (people) do not know what we are saying he he he Kautilya and us will deny or will report/revert/revdel this message and IP and by this way we will all be safe and we will win he he he The admins will do nothing to our accounts because of WP:AGF and anyway this IP is not connected to any of our accounts he he he Thats why we are telling you people that we will be safe and we will win, you people worry about yourself, there is still time pakistanis, (fix yourselves?) and don't mess with us he he he Accept your loss and go away from here or you will all have the state of Xinjao and PAKHIGHWAY he he he think he he he Mar4d is also about to be blocked

I raised the issue of users using IP socks at WP:ANI and that it has not been dealt with, which is making us inundated with this.

I would suggest that the page's full protection be reset to indefinite, because obviously the IP's masters have accounts, and other lesser protections will not have any effect. If not, could you keep an eye on the talkpage and article to detect any future behaviour similar to what this IP from India is threatening?--NadirAli نادر علی (talk) 05:39, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. I have passed that on to the Arbs. For now I will let the protection expire and then if necessary, and I suspect it will be, use EC protection. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 06:11, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

ANI/Kashmir Conflict

Since that thread is among some suppressed revisions, I thought I'd respond to your ping here instead. I (unsurprisingly) know nothing of the harassment you received (and wouldn't know how to go about a desypopping anyhow). The reason I mention this at all, though, is that I've been mulling over for a while the possibility that we require an ARBIPA-type authorization of page protection for South-Asian articles; and since you just came across some of the nonsense that has me thinking this is necessary, I was wondering what your thoughts were. Cheers, Vanamonde (talk) 11:45, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Vanamonde93. I really didn't think that you or Sitush had anything to do with it. More a clumsy attempt at intimidation or to get the other editor in trouble. Did you see the section just above? Then there is Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement#Mar4d and the Kashmir conflict is already under Wikipedia:Arbitration/Active sanctions (Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/India-Pakistan). I passed all the info on to the Arbs. And yes I think based on all of this over the last few days some type of standard page protection is required. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:26, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Glad to see we're on the same page. Cheers, Vanamonde (talk) 17:14, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

It's halfway through the first month of Autumn where I am but it's still 30°C and I have the fan on. Above 35°C or so, my modem starts playing up and I have a fan for it as well. When it gets above 40°C, I take that as nature's way of telling me I should be doing something else than being at a keyboard. Don't get me wrong, it gets cold here. In Winter when I start my ride to work in the morning, it will often be as low as... 10°C! Brrr! Port Phillip Bay Weather aka --Shirt58 (talk) 03:18, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

Port Charlotte High School

Sorry, it is *NOT* disruptive editing to post truthful information to an article. I guess I'll have to go about this the right way... Log in, create an article about the rather notable school board candidate/cyberstalker (who happens to be a Wikipedia user) and then add the link to the Port Charlotte High School article- all sourced of course. I only hope and pray I don't get harassed on line like that poor girl in Port Charlotte. 97.67.148.178 (talk) 05:17, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

It is disruptive (and a BLP violation) to post unsourced negative information about a living person. To make matters worse the link was to a disambiguation page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:28, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

Black people

Thanks for your sensible action to fully protect the Black people article.

I need to ask how we may proceed with improvement of the article. As I indicated in the article's talk page, the following had been noted by other editors:-

  • Information about sub-Saharan Africa is missing.
  • The article is entirely (100%) focused on the "slavery" narrative. See [19]

In this regard, I had attempted to clean up and rationalize the article by adding new material and merging some text into the appropriate category.

I also started a discussion on the talk page about my changes. However, one editor was not particularly keen on discussing but rather kept reversing the edits.

I need advice on how the article may be improved. Thanks --DanJazzy (talk) 07:41, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

DanJazzy Well if the Talk:Black people doesn't work then you need to go and try one of the things at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:46, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Queens Park Community School GLAM page

It's really very unhelpful that you've gone and deleted this page I started as part of a project with Wikimedia UK, the Wikimedia chapter where I work as Communications Coordinator, to encourage children at a local school to understand how to use Wikipedia as part of our GLAM outreach work. We are trying our best to teach people best practice editing, and then for people to come along and delete our work without even leaving a message on my talk page, it's really poor practice. Please think before you go around arbitrarily deleting things you don't like. We are trying our best to improve this encyclopaedia and encourage a new generation of editors, and what you're doing makes my work much harder. --Jwslubbock (talk) 09:08, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Jwslubbock The work was originally at Wikipedia:GLAM/Queens Park Community School and was moved by Roobs1 to Wikipedia:Queens Park Community School (QPCS). Of course "Wikipedia" space is not where articles are kept and because we already have a Queens Park Community School made it appear that an attempt was underway to create a duplicate article. It should have not been moved or should have been in draft space or a users sandbox. It also should have had a note at the top explaining what was going on. By the way if the work had been left at Wikipedia:GLAM/Queens Park Community School I would have never noticed it and the deletion of Wikipedia:Queens Park Community School (QPCS) had nothing to do with the liking or disliking of the article. I have restored it and moved it to User:Jwslubbock/Queens Park Community School (QPCS). CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 10:07, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the explanation, it seems it was a misunderstanding. We have had other project pages prefixed with the GLAM identification, but perhaps it would be better to move it to Meta Wiki to avoid confusion? Jwslubbock (talk) 12:33, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
As long as it is tagged as a teaching project and not in Wikipedia space. Draft space would work as well. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 15:52, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

I was going to make it a redirect when I saw your protection. Do you have an opinion on this matter? Dom from Paris (talk) 13:11, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

A beginner's confusion

Dear, CambridgeBayWeather. I am currently involved in the process of creating an informative page on a company that I am interning at. Today only one photo was embeddable on to my draft I am confident that all photos attempted are originals as I obtained them from my managers & co-workers. May I ask; What are the preset conditions for accepting an upload and/or is there any process I can incorporate to overcome the rejections of the uploaded image file?

Thank you in advance for your time, Cliff Punyanitya — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cliffpunyanitya (talkcontribs) 08:19, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Cliffpunyanitya Your first problem is that as an intern you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. As to the pictures I see that one is available at Commons as File:Sheraton Hokkaido Resort.tif but File:Overview PP.png does not seem to have been uploaded either here or at Commons. Pictures should not be taken by your co-workers but should be taken by you. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 13:47, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Edits to airline articles by IP 114.204

G’day from Oz; you reverted several unhelpful edits by IP 114.204 a few hours ago. This guy has been making edits of this nature for a fair while now. The edits are often of quite poor quality - he like to use the word “fleet” when he means “aircraft” (e.g. “several fleets stored temporarily”) - and in general achieve nothing. Rodoljub Roki Vulović

Hello, I have seen that You have protected page Rodoljub Roki Vulović from being created as it was repeatedly created without a proof of being notable. I would only like to ask You if the following criteria would be enought to recreate it (based on [22]:

1. Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.

5. Has released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years, and with a roster of performers, many of whom are independently notable).

Regards, StjepanHR (talk) 16:06, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

StjepanHR. I think the best thing would be to create a sandbox or draft version that could be checked and, then if OK, be moved into article space. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:47, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank You, I will do as You said as soon as I have free time. StjepanHR (talk) 19:55, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2018).

Administrator changes

added 331dotCordless LarryClueBot NG
removed Gogo DodoPb30SebastiankesselSeicerSoLando

Guideline and policy news

  • Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
  • Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
  • The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
  • The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

  • A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

Question about old SPI filing

Hi there. A while back you mistakenly blocked me on suspicion of socking and I'm requesting some assistance in reading the relevant SPI filing. You made one comment in the SPI, at 05:23, 7 May 2017, referencing the same paragraph being removed by both accounts, and noting that the second account was an obvious reference to my username. Just so I understand, were these two facts the sum total of the reasons you nominated my account as a sockpuppet? Was there any IP based information? The user-compare report appears to be empty. Factchecker_atyourservice 00:14, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

Factchecker_atyourservice. I honestly don't remember. I'm not a checkuser so I can't say if there was any IP info. I think it was just those two facts. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:52, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather. Cheers. Frankly, I think it was User:Gregcollins11, an apparent SPA most of whose edits occurred around the same time, and whose very brief edit history suggests that he or she is in fact an employee of the founder of the organization of the article I was editing,Gatestone Institute, or perhaps an employee of the organization. A big no-no, as we know, and since I don't appreciate the leg-humping use of my username nor the unwanted block it inspired, I would take great pleasure in seeing that account indef'd if my suspicions were to prove accurate. Is this the sort of thing that I can request an SPI for? I really would like to get this cleared up and I can show circumstantially in a bunch of ways that this user activity was not mine, but it would so much more convenient if IP logs eliminated the need to put together diffs and explanations of what I mean, by showing that the sock was Gregcollins11 and not me. Factchecker_atyourservice 01:15, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
Factchecker_atyourservice. Well you could but I don't think it would go anywhere. As far as I know it's all to old for the data the checkusers need to still be available. Bbb23 would know better than I do though. If I blocked you wrongly then I apologise. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 01:50, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

hello cambridgebaysunset

a link to your page popped up in my report sheet hence my current message.

is there a reason why images wont upload to my newly posted article. My account is still a few days old and the article is not yet visble

Maxinegough. I can't find any page under that name or any similar name either current or deleted. If it was the same as your user page then it would have been deleted as a copyright violation. You can't just copy and paste material from another web site. Everything must be in your own words. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 13:11, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

AN3RR close

Hello CambridgeBayWeather, thank you for your close of the discussion involving User:Holbach Girl at WP:AN3RR. I appreciate the fact that you protected the article and gave us time to discuss the information without her constantly reverting.

However, I'm also dissatisfied with this outcome. I and several editors (5 against 1) reverted her and asked her to find a consensus on the talk page. I tried finding a compromise version twice and offered to do it again a third time (she reverted completely back to her own version the first two times, and about 20 minutes after I offered the third time, she reverted back to her version). Another editor tried explaining WP:BRD and edit warring to her at least three times,[26][27][28] and she pretended that nobody had explained anything to her (blatantly going against WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT). I want to reach an agreement with her, but based on all this, along with her apparent unwillingness so far to reach a consensus despite multiple others reverting her, I strongly recommend that you should take stronger action against her. This behavior on her part has been very frustrating to me. --1990'sguy (talk) 23:18, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

I agree that there was edit warring but there was technically no 3RR. Typically I will protect rather than block. Blocked editors are unable to comment and sometimes it is possible that they have good points but can't get them across properly. Lots of time to block if it becomes necessary. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:36, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thanks. --1990'sguy (talk) 23:51, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for tending to this matter. I hope you can clear something up for me. Huitzilopochtli1990 on the Sherman discussion tab wrote "User:CambridgeBayWeather has reverted to the correct version", re: your locking of the page. I know you installed an older version of the page before locking it, but I did not read anywhere that you said it was the "correct" version. Did you, or do you, endorse it as a "correct" version and I missed it? Holbach Girl (talk) 02:29, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Holbach Girl. It was before the edit war rather than what is the correct version and I just left a note on the talk page to that effect. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:24, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

I'm leaving this post here to let you know I'm planning on putting back my page improvements to the Rob Sherman page. The improvements have been listed, numbered and explained on the discussion tab for more than a month without any concerns about them being raised. (There are three improvement edits where objections were brought up, and are still being discussed, so I won't be adding those back yet.) I just wanted to alert you since you were the last person to remove many of the improvements before locking the page.Holbach Girl (talk) 03:52, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Page of YS Jaganmohan Reddy

Hi,

This is to bring to your kind attention that the page of YS Jaganmohan Reddy was recently vandalized by user Mdann52 on 21 Apr for malafide intentions. The page has been locked for editing by you. Request you to kindly revert the page to the version by Auric (00:41, 21 April 2018‎ ). The permalink for the version is: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Y._S._Jaganmohan_Reddy&oldid=837466048 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seeker5489 (talkcontribs)

Seeker5489. Please go to Talk:Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and lay out your concerns there. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:57, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Good evening. I think it might be better to reduce the protection of this page seeing as there is consensus on Talk:No Tears Left to Cry and most of the disruptive editing came from IPs adding unsourced content and a user who has agreed at WP:AN/3RR not to edit the page for a week. The song is receiving a lot of attention from the media at the moment as a high-profile new release and with it being completely protected, info (or lack thereof) will make the page outdated and lead to numerous edit requests. Article Title needs a minor change

Hiya, could you do me a favour please? I need someone with administrative prileveges to make a small change to an article's title, because it has a redirect being made for links that go to it, but don't seem to match its title. The problem here, is that the article in question - Britain’s Got Talent (series 12) - has a different form of apostrophe in the title than that for other articles covering other series and the show, such as Britain's Got Talent. Could you help change it to match the others, and thus eliminate the minor nusicance of the redirect matter that is not truly needed thanks to this grammar matter? Thanks. GUtt01 (talk) 21:07, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Cambridge.

Can you help me with this article, Ramon Nomar? An editor has made persistent reverts. I think he is trying to be a vandal. Ramon was born in Venezuela. Caracas is part of Venezuela. Hi Cambridge. The editor in question is Non3up and he is a vandal. He has just reverted your edits and fails to use the talk page too. 101.178.163.208 (talk) 05:08, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
He isn't a vandal any more than you are. Also he did make a comment on the talk page it's you that failed to. Being a BLP concern I have fully protected the page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:36, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
He only made the comment after I notified you of this. Atleast I brought this to your attention many days ago.101.178.163.208 (talk) 05:52, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
101.178.163.208 I have asked you many times to use the talk page and refused to follow Wikipedia guidelines, you have been disconsiderate of other editors and going as far of using personal attacks and accusing other editors who disagree with you of being vandals among other things, this is the perfect picture of an actual vandal and I'm not saying this because you're an IP. This has gone far enough and considering taking this to ANI. And sorry CambridgeBayWeather you had to get caught on this unnecessary crossfire. (N0n3up (talk) 07:08, 2 May 2018 (UTC))
You too have shown disregard for the Wikipedia guidelines (which you love to state). You are the classic example of a hypocrite and vandal. You also seem to hound me and it appears that you are stalking my edits.101.178.163.208 (talk) 02:02, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
It's all good so far. I only ever had to close one discussion here because it just started getting out of control. See Eurobasket further up this page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 14:24, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Cambridge. You are a good editor. Can't say the same about the other editor. 101.178.163.208 (talk) 02:03, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
You need to stop calling them a vandal. They are not and calling them that is a personal attack. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:47, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

MOS: namespace.

Hi, CBW,

You recently moved MOS:UNIVERSE to WP:MOS:UNIVERSE because you thought the former is in wrong namespace. Although, you're right, technically MOS: is not a namespace, but it is one of the community-recognized pseudo-namespaces and they're allowed. Refer to WP:PNS and Category:Redirects to project space. There are literally thousands of redirects in that MOS: "wrong namespace".

Now a person has to type WP:MOS:UNIVERSE which is inarguably longer, instead of briefer MOS:UNIVERSE.

I believe, namespaces are intricate and can be confusing to anyone. Thanks. –Ammarpad (talk) 05:34, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Ammarpad. Recreate it if you want. I'm not that bothered. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:52, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
  • A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

Technical news

  • AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
  • When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
  • The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
  • There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Gaming of the system

I have been watching some pages and am extremely concerned that there is large-scale tag-teaming and gaming going on to circumvent WP:NOCON. There's two articles where this behaviour is very suspicious with the same characters and same edit war tactics to retain the non-consensus revisions before obtaining page protections. Until now I have not been active on these articles but a concerned observer. Yesterday, starting at 06:05 this started on History of Gilgit Baltistan, resulting in a page protection (fortuitously) and it is continuing today with the same characters on Princely state where there is a major ongoing dispute on the talkpage. The page was quite stable until 30 April when a sleeper account (which has disappeared since!) turned up to do a revert of a longstanding edit made on the 5th of April (explained then, with no forthcoming objection until 30 April/1 May) and since then there is an ongoing edit war with the seeming intent to obtain a false WP:STATUSQUO while talkpage discussion is still going. Hopefully you can settle it. JosephusOfJerusalem (talk) 05:09, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Mahabad

Hello admin,

You moved the name of the city of Piranshahr to Mahabad, Piranshahr and Mahabad are two different cities in West Azerbaijan in Iran. You can search for it they are not the same cities, please can you move the name to Piranshahr again? Piranshahr is the correct name, i mean this article: Mahabad, West Azerbaijan, please check it and move it back to the correct name which is Piranshahr, as you can see in the article, the article is about Piranshahr city and not Mahabad, thank you--Bahmanpur (talk) 13:26, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

2016 Indian Line of Control strike

You protected 2016 Indian Line of Control strike against some edit warring; I have just reverted a bad NAC of the AfD for the discussion (I have no opinion on the article, but the AfD was closed by a brand new e3ditor who had already participated in the discussion, and closed it with a supervote (actually removing their own "speedy keep" !vote before doing so!) Please add: Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys Breaks Record For Most Simultaneous Top 20 Hot 100 Hits, Besting The Beatles & J. Cole

On May 12, 2018, the album broke the record for the most simultaneous top 20 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart with nine songs in the top 20 of the Hot 100, shattering the previous record of six, which was shared by The Beatles and J. Cole. The Beatles held the record for 54 years, as they charted six songs in the top 20 on charts dated April 11 and April 18, 1964. J. Cole tied the mark on May 5, 2018. Malone also broke the record for the most simultaneous top 40 Hot 100 hits: 14.[1]

Sabine Weiss disambiguation page

Hi CambridgeBayWeather,

I'm not a very experienced Wikipedia editor and wonder if you could help me. I would like to link to this French Wikipedia page – https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabine_Weiss – from the English Wikipedia page for Frédéric Boissonnas, but even with a multilingual link it seems to redirect to the English Wikipedia page for a different Sabine Weiss.

I tried to create a disambiguation page but clearly did something wrong as you then made this edit: 'CambridgeBayWeather moved page Sabine Weiss (canoeist) to Sabine Weiss: Only one with this name'. What should I have done to get Frédéric Boissonnas to link to Sabine Weiss the photographer, not the canoeist? Thanks!

CelibateHare (talk) 09:44, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

CelibateHare. This is how the links work. I had to look it up because I didn't know how to do it either. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 09:51, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Laugh

Hello my friend, it's been a very long time since we've chatted (and looking it up; it was 2010!). My daughter and I were looking at northern towns, and found Eureka, Nunavut. That led to discussion about having chatted with you, looking at pictures of Cambridge Bay, then looking at other uploads of yours. To our great delight and heavy laughter, we found File:Ragged Ass Road.jpg! I could not believe the name was real until we looked it up on Google maps, and found it is real. Just too funny! Thanks so much for uploading it and giving us such a great laugh! --Hammersoft (talk) 02:43, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Hammersoft. Good to hear from you. Did you read Ragged Ass Road (street)? We had a hard time finding the place that day. Even my daughter, who lived in Yellowknife, wasn't too sure where it was. I've never been to Eureka, Nunavut but an old co-worker was stationed there and at Alert, Nunavut many years ago. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 04:11, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm astonished there's an article! I'll read it with my daughter later today. We were joking about it last night, and came up with other road names in town. See, there's a road leading out of town that has a switchback on it. In the winter, it's very easy to slide off. That road's name is "Scary Ass Rd." ...and so forth :) --Hammersoft (talk) 17:45, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
If you Google "The Times Behind the Signs" book there is a book that was done by a Wikipedia editor that explains how the streets got their names. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:52, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I wonder if you'd care to cast an eye at Uvavnuk? You made a small edit a while ago. Any constructive criticism would be welcome, espcially any suggestions of relevant images. And please tell me if I've made any glaring Arctic errors. Thank you! Carbon Caryatid (talk) 16:55, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Carbon Caryatid. Looks good to me. I saw this wich give a date for when she was active but I'm not sure how correct it is. I made a small change here to make Inuit singular and add that she was Iglulingmiut. I checked but couldn't find any pictures of Uvavnuk. I've sometimes seen pictures of others mentioned in an article such as Peter Freuchen or Knud Rasmussen. I was amused that the first translation of Rasmussen's work was called The Intellectual Culture of the Copper Eskimos as the Copper Inuit live some distance away. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:27, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for that speedy and helpful response. Google blocks me from reading the book you link to, alas. And alas also that there is no image that could be associated with Uvavnuk. Maybe her place of residence? As your change of Inuit for Inuk, I wonder how we can make the lead as plain as possible. I suspect that most readers of the English-language Wikipedia would recognise "Eskimo" but possibly not "Inuit"; for only a very small minority would "Inuk" be a helpful or indeed comprehensible descriptor. But discussing this on your talkpage probably isn't the best place; do you know if this linguistic issue has been hashed out elsewhere, on an article talkpage or project page perhaps? Carbon Caryatid (talk) 15:16, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
