Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- On wikis with the Translate extension enabled, users will notice that the FuzzyBot will now automatically create translated versions of categories used on translated pages. [1]
- View all 29 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the submitted task to use the SecurePoll extension for English Wikipedia's special administrator election was resolved on time. [2]
Updates for technical contributors
- In

, the logic of Wikibase functiongetAllStatements
changed to behave likegetBestStatements
. Invoking the function now returns a copy of values which are immutable. [3] - Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. The API will be rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The impacted endpoints include getting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content. These changes will be available on testwiki later this week, with other projects to follow. This change should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints should verify behavior on testwiki, and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket.
In depth
- Admins and users of the Wikimedia projects where Automoderator is enabled can now monitor and evaluate important metrics related to Automoderator's actions. This Superset dashboard calculates and aggregates metrics about Automoderator's behaviour on the projects in which it is deployed. Thanks to the Moderator Tools team for this Dashboard; you can visit the documentation page for more information about this work. [4]

Request on 09:51:14, 20 November 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Maggieyu555
- Maggieyu555 (talk · contribs)
Hi Idoghor,
Thank you for taking the time to review my Wikipedia draft. I have edited the draft several times, but it continues to be declined. I understand that the main issue appears to be the sources of information.
Since this page is about a private company, there may be limited opportunities to cite journals or books. Could you kindly advise if there are specific areas I should revise or additional sources I could include to address the concerns and avoid further rejection of the draft?
I appreciate your guidance and assistance in helping me improve this submission.
Best regards, Maggie
Maggieyu555 (talk) 09:51, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Maggieyu555, thank you for reaching out, and welcome to Wikipedia. The draft provides a good overview of DediProg Technology Co., Ltd., but some areas need adjustments to align with guidelines and policies. The main concerns appear to be the tone and the reliability of the sources. The tone should be strictly neutral and encyclopedic. The most critical improvement lies in the sources. Some of the cited references appear to be from the company’s own materials, such as its website or Taiwantrade. While these are valid for basic information like founding dates or office locations, they do not demonstrate independent coverage or establish the company's significance. Reliable, third-party sources such as industry publications and news outlets are necessary to meet the notability requirements. Lastly, the Products and Services section and History section needs better integration into the narrative. Instead of listing certifications or achievements, you could summarize the company's offerings and tie them to its broader impact, supported by credible and reliable references that are independent of the subject. If there are no reliable sources, you should remove that section. I recommend visiting notability guidelines for companies and organizations and working to incorporate independent sources that discuss DediProg's contributions to the semiconductor field. And please, write the "External link" section in English. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 10:40, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Idoghor Melody,
- Thank you for your feedback and for pointing out the areas for improvement. Your guidance is much appreciated!

Subject: Clarification Regarding Sources for Kalki: The Undefeated Biopic
Dear Idoghor Melody,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to respectfully address the recent decline of the article "Kalki: The Undefeated" due to the absence of reliable sources. I understand the importance of adhering to Wikipedia’s standards for verifiability, and I would like to explain the challenges in sourcing references for this biographical entry.
The period covered in the article, from 2018 to 2020, focuses on the achievements of a young Karate athlete, Kalki, in Tamil Nadu, South India. During this time, Karate tournaments in the region received limited media attention, with much of the coverage coming from local news outlets that are not always easily accessible or reliable by broader standards.
Despite this, Kalki’s achievements were acknowledged in regional publications such as The Times of India, but unfortunately, many of these articles have either been removed or are no longer accessible due to the transient nature of local sports reporting. As a result, finding additional verifiable sources has been challenging.
Given these circumstances, I am planning to resubmit the draft as it stands. I kindly request that, upon review, the article be reconsidered for acceptance, acknowledging the limitations in available sources due to the regional nature of the coverage.
I sincerely appreciate your time and understanding in this matter. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to your guidance on how best to proceed with this submission.
Warm regards, Srinivasa RaghavanSsrinivasaraghavan29 (talk) 08:08, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Khanbijoy1471 on User talk:Khanbijoy1471 (09:41, 23 November 2024)
Sir I published my biography but they didn’t response can you review my post ? Please as soon as possible published my post --Khanbijoy1471 (talk) 09:41, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Khanbijoy1471, thank you for your message. I’d like to kindly advise against publishing articles about yourself, as it goes against Wikipedia's conflict of interest and neutrality guidelines. Articles written about oneself often lack the impartial tone required by Wikipedia. If you believe you meet Wikipedia's notability criteria, just relax, and someday someone will write the article based on reliable and independent sources. This ensures that the content is neutral and meets Wikipedia's standards. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 13:50, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sir what can i do now ?
- how to solve it ? Can you told me ? Khanbijoy1471 (talk) 19:09, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

Dear Idoghor Melody,
Thank you so much for your review – and so quickly! – of Wikipedia article “Robert I. Misbin”. Updates for editors
- Two new parser functions were added this week. The
{{#interwikilink}}
function adds an interwiki link and the{{#interlanguagelink}}
function adds an interlanguage link. These parser functions are useful on wikis where namespaces conflict with interwiki prefixes. For example, links beginning withMOS:
on English Wikipedia conflict with themos
language code prefix of Mooré Wikipedia. - Starting this week, Wikimedia wikis no longer support connections using old RSA-based HTTPS certificates, specifically rsa-2048. This change is to improve security for all users. Some older, unsupported browser or smartphone devices will be unable to connect; Instead, they will display a connectivity error. See the HTTPS Browser Recommendations page for more-detailed information. All modern operating systems and browsers are always able to reach Wikimedia projects. [12]
- Starting December 16, Flow/Structured Discussions pages will be automatically archived and set to read-only at the following wikis: arwiki, cawiki, frwiki, mediawikiwiki, orwiki, wawiki, wawiktionary, wikidatawiki, zhwiki. This is done as part of StructuredDiscussions deprecation work. If you need any assistance to archive your page in advance, please contact Trizek (WMF). [13]
- This month the Chart extension was deployed to production and is now available on Commons and Testwiki. With the security review complete, pilot wiki deployment is expected to start in the first week of December. You can see a working version on Testwiki and read the November project update for more details.
- View all 23 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a bug with the "Download as PDF" system was fixed. [14]
Updates for technical contributors
- In late February, temporary accounts will be rolled out on at least 10 large wikis. This deployment will have a significant effect on the community-maintained code. This is about Toolforge tools, bots, gadgets, and user scripts that use IP address data or that are available for logged-out users. The Trust and Safety Product team wants to identify this code, monitor it, and assist in updating it ahead of the deployment to minimize disruption to workflows. The team asks technical editors and volunteer developers to help identify such tools by adding them to this list. In addition, review the updated documentation to learn how to adjust the tools. Join the discussions on the project talk page or in the dedicated thread on the Wikimedia Community Discord server (in English) for support and to share feedback.

Question from Santa Wrld Studios (23:54, 3 December 2024)
How do I create a page for an influential figure --Santa Wrld Studios (talk) 23:54, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Santa Wrld Studios, welcome to Wikipedia. To create a an article, ensure that the subject meets the notability guidelines with significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. Gather these sources and draft the article in your sandbox or through the Articles for Creation (AfC) process, adhering to policies on neutrality and verifiability. Avoid conflicts of interest, write objectively, and cite all claims. If you're unsure, ask for feedback or guidance on the Teahouse. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 06:57, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
Request on 23:54:40, 4 December 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Yanhut
Hi Idoghor,
You recently declined my article draft, and I was wondering if you could provide some clarification on why. I've included references from Fox News (Fox 13 Tampa), Tampa International Airport's official news page, The Orlando Sentinel, and South Florida's Sun Sentinel. Since these are all legitimate publications, I'm wondering if it's a certain number of references that need to be included for the article to be considered for publication? Or is it up to the discretion of the community to decide? I really want to do this correctly, any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Weekly highlight
- Technical documentation contributors can find updated resources, and new ways to connect with each other and the Wikimedia Technical Documentation Team, at the Documentation hub on MediaWiki.org. This page links to: resources for writing and improving documentation, a new #wikimedia-techdocs IRC channel on libera.chat, a listing of past and upcoming documentation events, and ways to request a documentation consultation or review. If you have any feedback or ideas for improvements to the documentation ecosystem, please contact the Technical Documentation Team.
Updates for editors
- Later this week, Edit Check will be relocated to a sidebar on desktop. Edit check is the feature for new editors to help them follow policies and guidelines. This layout change creates space to present people with new Checks that appear while they are typing. The initial results show newcomers encountering Edit Check are 2.2 times more likely to publish a new content edit that includes a reference and is not reverted.
- The Chart extension, which enables editors to create data visualizations, was successfully made available on MediaWiki.org and three pilot wikis (Italian, Swedish, and Hebrew Wikipedias). You can see a working examples on Testwiki and read the November project update for more details.
- Translators in wikis where the mobile experience of Content Translation is available, can now discover articles in Wikiproject campaigns of their interest from the "All collection" category in the articles suggestion feature. Wikiproject Campaign organizers can use this feature, to help translators to discover articles of interest, by adding the
<page-collection> </page-collection>
tag to their campaign article list page on Meta-wiki. This will make those articles discoverable in the Content Translation tool. For more detailed information on how to use the tool and tag, please refer to the step-by-step guide. [15] - The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, now has a multiselect filter for namespace selection. This enables users to select multiple specific namespaces, instead of only one or all, when fetching pages for deletion.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions. Thanks to Chlod and the Moderator Tools team for both of these improvements. [16]
- The Editing Team is working on making it easier to populate citations from archive.org using the Citoid tool, the auto-filled citation generator. They are asking communities to add two parameters preemptively,
archiveUrl
andarchiveDate
, within the TemplateData for each citation template using Citoid. You can see an example of a change in a template, and a list of all relevant templates. [17] - One new wiki has been created: a Wikivoyage in Indonesian (
voy:id:
) [18] - Last week, all wikis had problems serving pages to logged-in users and some logged-out users for 30–45 minutes. This was caused by a database problem, and investigation is ongoing. [19]
- View all 19 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a bug in the Add Link feature has been fixed. Previously, the list of sections which are excluded from Add Link was partially ignored in certain cases. [20][21]
Updates for technical contributors
- Codex, the design system for Wikimedia, now has an early-stage implementation in PHP. It is available for general use in MediaWiki extensions and Toolforge apps through Composer, with use in MediaWiki core coming soon. More information is available in the documentation. Thanks to Doğu for the inspiration and many contributions to the library. [22]
- Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. On December 4, the MediaWiki Interfaces team began rerouting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content endpoints on testwiki from RESTbase to comparable MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The team encourages active users of these endpoints to verify their tool's behavior on testwiki and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket before the end of the year, as they intend to roll out the same change across all Wikimedia projects in early January. These changes are part of the work to replace the outdated RESTBase system.
- The 2024 Developer Satisfaction Survey is seeking the opinions of the Wikimedia developer community. Please take the survey if you have any role in developing software for the Wikimedia ecosystem. The survey is open until 3 January 2025, and has an associated privacy statement.
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week. [23]
Meetings and events
- The next meeting in the series of Wikimedia Foundation discussions with the Wikimedia Commons community will take place on December 12 at 8:00 UTC and at 16:00 UTC. The topic of this call is new media and new contributors. Contributors from all wikis are welcome to attend.

Hello
Hello @Idoghor Melody,
I hope this message finds you well. I noticed that some of the articles I’ve created have been accepted but have not yet been reviewed. I understand the reviewing process can be demanding, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you dedicate to maintaining the quality of Wikipedia.
If you have the availability, I would be grateful if you could take a look at these articles Maratón Medellin,Harrison Gwamnishu, Joyce Wrice, Joro (Wizkid song), and Lois Riess. Please let me know if you would be able to assist with this, and I’d be happy to provide additional details about the articles in question.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
Best regards, Afro 📢Talk! 20:07, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Afrowriter, I have reviewed Harrison and Joyce as the others have been taken care of. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 17:07, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Event coordinator granted
After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:
- The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
- The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
- The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:56, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 26
Hello everyone, and welcome to the 26th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 August 2024. At press time, over 94% of the world has legally fallen prey to the merry celebrations of "Christmas", and so shall you soon. It's been a quiet 4 months, and we hope to see you with way more new scripts next year. Happy holidays! Aaron Liu (talk) 05:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
- Very useful for changelist patrollers, DiffUndo, by Nardog, is this edition's featured script. Taking inspiration from WP:AutoWikiBrowser's double-click-to-undo feature, it adds an undo button to every line of every diff from "show changes", optimizing partial reverts with your favorite magic spell and nearly fulfilling m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo.
- Doğu/Adiutor, a recent WP:Twinkle/WP:RedWarn-like userscript that follows modern WMF UI design, is now an extension. However, its sole maintainer has left the project, which still awaits WMF mw:code stewardship (among some audits) to be installed on your favorite WMF wikis.
- DannyS712, our former chief editor, has ascended to MediaWiki and the
greenerpurpley pastures of PHP with commits creating Special:NamespaceInfo and the__EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__
magic word to exclude a template from Special:UnusedTemplates! I wonder if Wikipedia has a templaters' newsletter...
- Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager, Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts, and Bradv/Superlinks haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
- Elominius/media timer and PrimeHunter/Search sort work, yet have alien user interface design. Someone could improve them...
- BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.
We need scripts that...
- allow you to edit {{sfn}} references graphically a la Ingenuity/ReferenceEditor
- copy specific named references from other pages to help with splitting and whatnot
- make adding icons/links to the top toolbar (or other portlets) much easier
- graphically generate a {{source assess table}}
- award a Four Award
- ...and many more, all available at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests. Thanks to the editors at US/R—including Nardog, User:Novem Linguae, User:Jeeputer, and many more!—for their work in processing userscript requests this past year.
- Andrybak/Unsigned helper forks Anomie/unsignedhelper to add support for binary search, automatic edit summaries after generating the {{unsigned}} template, support for {{undated}}, and support for generating while syntax highlighting is on.
- Pour one out: DreamRimmer/User not around forks Andrybak/Not around to allow configuration precise to a number of days (from the original precision of years).
- Red-tailed hawk/cv revdel forks Enterprisey/cv-revdel to automatically add CopyPatrol reports.
- Polygnotus/Move+ updates BilledMammal's classic Move+ to add automattic watchlisting of all pages—except the target page(s)—changed while processing a move.
- Administrators only! Novem Linguae/UnblockReview forks the now-broken Enterprisey/unblock-review to review unblock requests with a graphical interface.
- 1AmNobody24: Find Link provides a shortcut to its namesake tool, Edward/Find link, which helps de-WP:ORPHAN articles.
- Andrybak: Contribs ranger (pictured) generates links to a limited range of user contributions, log items, or page history. You see, it's not just contribs!
- CanonNi/VoteVisualizer is a rewrite of Pythoncoder/voteSymbols that makes everything saner to configure.
- When viewing Category:Articles missing coordinates with coordinates on Wikidata, Jeeputer/coordInserter adds links to automatically insert coordinates into the article selected.
- To satiate archaeology and curiosity (the same thing, perhaps?), JJPMaster/AfC time logger logs the time it takes for a user to review each submission to Wikipedia:Articles for creation.
- Natdog/InsertAnyChar adds a searchable list of all Unicode characters to the 2010 source editor.

Question from TAkisRdAbest (20:07, 27 December 2024)
Can I create a Wikipedia page? --TAkisRdAbest (talk) 20:07, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @TAkisRdAbest, welcome to Wikipedia. Yes, you can create a Wikipedia page, but it is important to follow Wikipedia's guidelines for creating articles. Make sure the topic meets notability criteria's, and use reliable sources to support the content. Here's a useful guide: Your First Article. I've also dropped a message on your talk page that covers some things you might need. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 08:14, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is for our company page can you please help approve our page Draft:Alphonsomango.in this isabout founder story and other things about commpany.
- Please help approve our draft Ppowle1 (talk) 08:36, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Ppowle1, welcome to Wikipedia. Your draft seems to only promote the company as it was not written from a neutral point of view. The draft also lacked sources to prove notability. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 09:08, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
