A tag has been placed on George Ashmore requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Regarding the Vorhees edit

[edit]

Hi there. I see you reverted an edit that I'd made, and mirroring the good faith assumption, I simply want to ask about it. Your edit message mentions that a "Link to people includes fictional characters" -- however, I'd very specifically put the edit in the "Other uses" section, not the "People" section. Is this not valid? It's an "other use" of the term, no? I tried to find a policy about this that you might have been referencing, and the closest I found was this style guide from the WikiProject on fictional characters, but I didn't see anything within that that talked about restrictions on linking. Maybe there's some other policy about it? If so, please point me at it, and/or otherwise help me understand why this edit was inappropriate -- because if it truly was, I want to understand why, to avoid making the mistake again, and if, instead, it was an error to revert my edit, then, well, I'd like to see the revertion reverted.  :) (Because it seems to me, that if someone hears or reads a reference to "Vorhees" somewhere, as I did the day I made that edit, that they might find themselves on on a disambiguation page like this one, and from that help page, I see multiple examples that involve fictional characters. Is it simply that I should add a "Fictional Characters" section, with just the one entry? Because I could do that.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks! Lindes (talk) 12:16, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lindes: On the Voorhees page, in the People section, there is a link to Voorhees (surname), which includes a list of people, both real and fictional, with that surname. This is to help keep the Voorhees disambiguation page relatively short and reflect all meanings of "Voorhees", rather than be dominated by a list of all the people who have that name. If your concern is that readers might not realise that fictional people are included in the surname list, I made this edit to clarify this. Do you think that would be sufficient? Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 12:54, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lindes: Oh, and as to whether fictional characters are better placed on disambiguation pages or surname pages, I'm not really sure. --Jameboy (talk) 13:18, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that edit. Yeah, I think that covers this case reasonably well. I'd indeed have had to click through and look at the list from the surname page, but doing so would indeed have found me what I'd been looking for that day. Thanks! Lindes (talk) 15:43, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
