Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from Bengal Subah into Nawabs of Bengal. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you.

Furthermore, copying large amounts from article to article goes against the principles of writing better articles. It fails to make good use of summary style and creates extra work maintaining unnecessary content forks. In Nawabs of Bengal you have created half a dozen referencing errors, duplicated references, spread obvious blunders like the claim that The History of Bangladesh, 1704-1971 was published by the University of Michigan, and reused at least one source, scroll.in, which is a very low quality source for history. You copied in a large table of military campaigns, complicating the chronological flow of the article, when the article already describes those campaigns (at least those relevant to the nawabs) in prose, which is generally preferred on Wikipedia. Bengal Subah, the Nawabs of Bengal, and the Maratha invasions of Bengal are related, but not identical topics. Please be more judicious about how much you copy, and clean up any mess you make when you do so. --Worldbruce (talk) 17:59, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for politely letting me know. I can assure that if I copy content from other pages I will provide attribution. I assumed that it was fine that I copied content from the Bengal Subah article because I contributed to part(s) of the content that I copied onto the Nawabs of Bengal page, however as I am finding out now that it was not the case I will clean up the aforementioned issues.
