Yubo Ruan (Chinese: 阮宇博[5]), born in Beijing in 1996, is a tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist.[4] He is the founder and CEO of 8 Decimal Capital,[4][6] a venture capital investment firm focusing on early stage fintech,[7] and Parallel Finance, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform on multiple blockchains valued at $500 million.[8][9]

Early life

In high school, Ruan started his first company Alisimba Technologies in Beijing, China while winning 13 invention awards and five patents. Alisimba was acquired by TopHacker Consulting Group in 2015.[9] Yubo continued his studies at Stanford University, specializing in computer science. Inspired by personal experiences, he also developed a robot to assist his grandfather with Parkinson’s disease, winning an award at the China Robotics Competition.[10] In college, he set up his first venture capital fund Skylight Investment to invest in disruptive technologies.[8]

Career

From 2008 to 2012,[11] Ruan developed[12] and upgraded the smart piggy bank system.[13]

In 2017, he served as the co-founder of Skylight Investment, backed by New Oriental (NYSEEDU) and Taiyou Fund.[citation needed]

In 2017, he launched his second VC fund 8 Decimal Capital with an AUM of over $60 million.[citation needed]

In 2021, he founded Parallel Finance, after dropping out of Stanford a DeFi platform on Polkadot and Ethereum, valued at $500 million and backed by investors like Sequoia, Founders Fund, Coinbase Ventures, Polychain, and Pantera.[14]
